Cross-shaped bricks, whose combination, both horizontally and vertically, forms cavities within walls, inspire this pattern. Osmosis between architecture and environment, function and form, interior and worldly dimension follows. To my mind, these patterned walls express Friulian identity trough vernacular architecture. Indeed, while keeping summer harvest dry and cool, these ‘holed walls’ allowed to consume it during wintertime. It is a clever way to gain maximum advantage of natural elements.
