I am a transhumanist. I am an individualist in contrast to you damn communists.. I am a media junkie. I am part of the DSL generation. I am online so much I foget about physical locations. I listen to most of the musical spectrum. Having DSL and lots of free time allows one to aquire what-once-must-have-seemed eclectic musical tastes. I listen to Bright Eyes because his new album Digital Ash in a Digital Urn (it's the DAW sounding one of the two) is phenomonal. I listen to turntablism: Dj Shadow, UNKLE, Dj Q-Bert. I am "antzy" because I demand instant gratification (point click generation.) I listen to "indie" but really it is indie pop or popular independent music because truly independent music laregly pesters my ears. My indie pop favorites The Postal Service, The Blood Brothers, Modest Mouse (allow many would scratch out the indie and refer to them as pop[ular music]), Arcade Fire, and TV on the Radio. I also enjoy music made with guitars. The latest wave I've been digging I've heard referred to as" Angular Rock." I like most of the bands: The Strokes, The Vines, The Futureheads, Interpol, The French Kicks, Bloc Party, and of course Franze Ferdinand.
Electronic music is cool too. I got into that stuff with the overly dramatic trance scene, but since that has fizzled out (and rightfully so) I have been throughly enjoying the post-trance dance scene. I like breaks (BT, Chemical Brothers, Cyrstal Method), broken beat (The Prodigy's new album), and 80s revialist(Felix Da Housecat's Devil Dazzle and the Neon Fever, Benny Benassi's Hynotica). I almost left out the chillout scene. Chillout music is lovely in that it has never been a fad. Everyone likes to chillout differently and thus music with the purpose of chilling out has been around since the begginning of time. I don't even know which artists to list. Air, Pink Floyd, Bent, Bonobo? Certainly some artist seem to overindulge in chill music and some vichously exploit it for profits but beyond those artists it seems every artist if not every genre has its own unique way to chill out. I tend to appreicate all of these ways to chill out past 12am.
What else is there to say about my bluntly American swagger? I love consumerism (love like you love a hooker, not like a wife who holds on to her Alzheimer's diseased husband.) I am not opposed to globalization just the manner in which it has been implemented. I believe in the potential of the United Nations but not its current manifestation. I do not hate Bush after all he is a puppet. I do hate his puppeteers with an animosity so profound it puts jihadists' hatred for Bush to shame. I do not kid myself believing Kerry would have 180'ed America's current state.
I think Threadless is a brilliant idea in theory and look forward to following it. It has much potential to ride the 2nd much-more-prosperous-than-the-first dot-com wave.
