  • I am totally with Mike on all of the above regarding 'ownership' and 'law'. However as people have mentioned 'public' spaces are exactly that, a shared space, and so more consideration should be given.

If you widen Mike's argument on 'property' to the wider environment, is environmental destruction not the most serious form of vandalism. As the earth is a public place, a shared space for all that exists on it.

On Mike's point "What does it mean to 'own' something?" We don't really own anything as we are only mortals after all. Therefore we can not claim to own the sky or the sea, the land, the forests and rivers, the creatures...

The idea of 'ownership', be it property, land, countries, resources, living things etc, is the cause for much suffering in the world.

Perhaps everything should be considered borrowed or shared.

  • I like graffiti that interacts with its surroundings. Saw this the other day and thought it was fun.

  • I love graffiti (when good quality). However I do not like the busy and dated type stuff you see everywhere and yes tagging looks shitty. I would love to see more art brightening up dull urbanism. Maybe more thoughtful, imaginative, clean and subtle stuff though.

Did some of Buddhism inspired stencil graffiti in the past:
