  • Chicago is 2 hours away and Indy is 60 minutes away and Indy is the closest airport. I guess you have to take my sentences with a gain of salt, because I grew up in San Diego and lived there for 26 years... it depends what your definition of exciting is. We have a small downtown area that usually has some type of event going on every weekend except for winter; things like blues festivals, food things, octoberfest, etc etc etc.

Purdue doesn't get a lot of big name concerts or acts, because we're "close" to Chicago, but we have had robin williams, Jim gaffigan, lewis black, the bravery, eve6 and so on, we tend to get midrange events.

From what I can tell there isn't much of a subculture here, but I could be looking in the wrong places too and I'm sure what you define as subculture. I'm huge into art, but there isn't the type of scene I like here.

What it comes down to is friends and your program. If those are good the 2 years will fly by and you'll move on to somewhere else. Luckily the general campus culture here is good and people are very friendly.

There IS a lot to do here, but you have to work a little bit.

Bottom line is I like it here, but I wouldn't live here past my time at Purdue

  • OH one bedrooms/studios go for $350-$450 on the cheap end here in Lafayette...

let me know if you have specific questions

  • Yep I live in West Lafayette right now... I assume this is for Purdue?

I like it here and I came from San Diego, Ca, but there is no comparison.

Weather- Mild midwest winter, hot muggy summers
Nothing really happens here too exciting (it's still fun here), but Chicago and Indy are close and lots of things happen there. Public transportation if decent. There are a few parks here, but it's pretty flat. Crime is very low and it's pretty safe here. There is no indie or subculture anything here to speak of...

    Cost of living is cheap
    Fairly bike friendly

In general I think it's a fine place to live for a couple years (I'll be here for 3-4), but it depends what kind of person you are. It's a college town with a steep gradient to rural midwest outside of the campus. You can get anything you need around here, but don't expect to find "off the beaten path" items

You can't buy alcohol on Sundays!

  • Thanks Ian, I think I'm going to poke around through these fonts and see what I can come up with. I'm not sure what I want exactly other than a "scientific figure" looking thing, but I know I want to involve this style of font.

BTW your shirt is one of my favorite shirts I have.
