hey andyg and everyone else who hates the new site's widescreen submission format

Here's what we're planning to do.

We want to start collecting a really large, fullscreen presentation image for each submission. We're thinking like 2700x1800 pixels. Then, when you're on a submission and you go into fullscreen mode, It fills your whole browser with that image and you can see all the detail the artist wants to show you. You'll also be able to score while in fullscreen mode and then it'll slide in the next submission, still in fullscreen.

This will be an awesome way to really show the detail in your design, much more than in a 640x800 image. We'll also be able to use these images on apps for mobile devices with retina displays and such.

It's going to rule.

That sounds awesome! I hope thieves don't take advantage of that larger size, but it would be amazing to see large versions of the super detailed stuff.

i was thinking that too tiffany

That would be epic.. There are a lot of times when I wish I could see the details in a design. Good luck

yea what's nice is that it's up to the artist how to use that space. if you want to show your design all hi res and stealable you can, but you can also step back a bit and just show certain sections of detail...

what if i just want to put a picture of myself?

Maybe utilizing some kind of Threadless watermark would be a good idea, though I'm not sure if that would confuse voters or not.

confuse the voters, cause mayhem, wreak havoc, TAKE BACK THE STREETS!

This sounds pretty cool.

Like the idea but people will steal high res designs. :/

sounds like powerscore on Viagra, I love it! Most fun I ever had with a presentation was this one: What Jake's describing could allow us to be really creative with it.

Am I right that it would exist independently of the regular slides?

i don't like letting the piracy people win. watermarks are lame and don't work half the time. no matter what, if someone wants to steal something they will figure out a way to do it, even if they have to recreate it themselves. i vote just put the hi-res up and deal with the piracy legally rather than sacrificing the awesomeness of being able to see fullscreen rad, detailed art.

They may steal our arts, BUT THEY WILL NEVER TAKE OUR FREEDOM!

If your art hasn't been stolen, you haven't made it big yet. I look forward to giant, awesome presentations. I mean, it's not like the average consumer will be buying a stolen copy of the design anyway. They are small time, or in markets that I normally wouldn't have any business with anyway (im looking at you russia and taiwan,.. jk, im not looking at you because I dont care about you).

I like it!!!!!!!!!!!!

A minimal watermark must we have ... but our designs will be on all trinkets stores.

It also rewards to who dedicates a little more time to present their work.

jeffreyg

so does that mean there wont be like a 250kb limit?

I guess you can watermark your own stuff if you wanted to anyway, I can't remember seeing anyone do it before though. Society6 stuff gets ripped off all the time, and the biggest previews are only about 400 x 600.

Rippers gonna rip.

filiskun
filiskun profile pic Alumni

WTF dot? O.o

True that. But they take those fu*king "previews" and print them on some lame iPhone cases and sale them on Etsy/eBay a lot cheaper than they are originally on Society6.

that's a really handsome idea. naolito has a point too, but i don't really fear thieves that much.

unrelatedly (back to my favorite topic!), is Taking Leaps getting extended again? It's important.
