Great Shirt Loving the message and on organic tee WOW!!

GMO stands for : GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISM

catgoil

Love this most clever design. Simply wish that the 'girly' one came with the option of being a 'V' neck style .. now THAT would truly be 'girly'!

JFN

I understand GMO and OMG but what does WTF stand for?

adumba55

It is because of GMOs that 3rd world countries are able to grow grains that have higher yield tonnage and higher nutrient values. Also an organic farm operation has a much larger carbon footprint as there is more work that has to be done meaning more people drive to the fields every single day. Plus round up comes form the ground and does not harm the soil or people, unless you drink gallons of it. So the misconception of a GMO is created by these hippies, almost all of boulder Colorado. Maybe you should do your research? I was raised on a farm and sell corn seed and I can tell you from first hand that if everyone were to plant conventional crops they would lose at least %50 of them to insects, diseases, and pests/insects. So the fight is really not about the crops as a GMO can be created with out being genetically modified. You breed it, but breeding takes a really long time. And when you make a GMO you are taking a desired gene out of one family, say one that has a really good drought sustainability. Then you insert that gene into another family that has a really high yield next ting you know you skipped years of breeding and created a GMO that has high drought sustainability and a high yield making it so it can grow in areas such as the eastern plains of Colorado where there is very little water but plenty of open farm ground.

Oh boy, the myth 'GMO's can feed the world' certainly does play on heart strings . It's a LIE: GMOs do not increase yields, and work against feeding a hungry world. Whereas sustainable non-GMO agricultural methods used in developing countries have conclusively resulted in yield increases of 79% and higher, GMOs do not, on average, increase yields at all. This was evident in the Union of Concerned Scientists' 2009 report Failure to Yield―the definitive study to date on GM crops and yield.

The International Assessment of Agricultural Knowledge, Science and Technology for Development (IAASTD) report, authored by more than 400 scientists and backed by 58 governments, stated that GM crop yields were "highly variable" and in some cases, "yields declined." The report noted, "Assessment of the technology lags behind its development, information is anecdotal and contradictory, and uncertainty about possible benefits and damage is unavoidable." They determined that the current GMOs have nothing to offer the goals of reducing hunger and poverty, improving nutrition, health and rural livelihoods, and facilitating social and environmental sustainability. On the contrary, GMOs divert money and resources that would otherwise be spent on more safe, reliable, and appropriate technologies.

And as far as adumba55 commenting GMO's "do not harm the soil or people"? GMOs INCREASE herbicide use. Most GM crops are engineered to be "herbicide tolerant"―their deadly weed killer. Monsanto, for example, sells Roundup Ready crops, designed to survive applications of their Roundup herbicide.

Between 1996 and 2008, US farmers sprayed an extra 383 million pounds of herbicide on GMOs. Overuse of Roundup results in "super weeds," resistant to the herbicide. This is causing farmers to use even more toxic herbicides every year. Not only does this create environmental harm, GM foods contain higher residues of toxic herbicides. Roundup, for example, is linked with sterility, hormone disruption, birth defects, and cancer.

And THIS statement is really the cat's meow! "a GMO can be created with out being genetically modified"! FACT: Genetic engineering creates dangerous side effects. By mixing genes from totally unrelated species, genetic engineering unleashes a host of unpredictable side effects. Moreover, irrespective of the type of genes that are inserted, the very process of creating a GM plant can result in massive collateral damage that produces new toxins, allergens, carcinogens, and nutritional deficiencies.

GMOs contaminate―forever. GMOs cross pollinate and their seeds can travel. It is impossible to fully clean up our contaminated gene pool. Self-propagating GMO pollution will outlast the effects of global warming and nuclear waste. The potential impact is huge, threatening the health of future generations. GMO contamination has also caused economic losses for organic and non-GMO farmers who often struggle to keep their crops pure.

@jfn: wtf="what the f*ck"

JFN

Thanks, Lucille. I was afraid of that. I'll pass on wearing one. I love the GMO OMG but the last part well -- it's not worth the money.

bigmclargehuge

Sciencephobia is going to ruin the world.

eribell

Witty design and a great message to boot. Love.

Thanks to everyone for there kind words and I'm glad that this is causing a discussion about GMO's vs. real food. No matter where you are on the fence at least honest discussion is happening. Thanks again!

PeekabooIseeyou

Genetically modified orginizm Oh my god what the f*ck are we eating?... I dont get it...

nettlebeast

Strange coming from a site that has a "Meat is tasty, tasty murder" shirt in current print. Meat is some of the FILTHIEST food produced by these agribusiness pigs. No pun intended.

groovyghalia

love this! especially since gmo's are the main reason that cancer is prevailing..

ParadoxicalPenguins

It's like you read my mind and put it on a shirt! (Well, my mind doesn't think "OMG" or "WTF" but both are just as ridiculous as GMOs so it fits perfectly!!!) And it's in my size! I've been ranting about GMOs all day on facebook and now I've found this lovely shirt! My friends probably think I'm crazy, but maybe a few are learning something. :)

dobyblue

TerryBeri - that's exactly how I would have responded to adumba55 who is regurgitating the same old tired talking points industry uses that science simply does not support.

Ridiculous notion that GMO's can feed the world, only organic can.

Let's get these L, XL and 2XL sizes reprinted please!

crazybluebunny

I like this shirt because its a total conversation starter. Lol. A messy one but yea

Ndoki

Everyone is right. GMO's do not create higher yields!

That is, if you ignore findings from Science Magazine, the Union of Concerned Scientists, Norman Borlaug (who actually spent his life seeing the effects firsthand, and getting dozens of awards for it) and CropLife International. Here's an example: "A 2010 article supported by CropLife International summarised the results of 49 peer reviewed studies on GM crops worldwide. On average, farmers in developed countries experienced increase in yield of 6% and in underdeveloped countries of 29%. Tillage was decreased by 25–58% on herbicide resistant soybeans, insecticide applications on Bt crops were reduced by 14–76% and 72% of farmers worldwide experienced positive economic results"

Of course if you prefer to listen to people at the Organic Center, they'd tell you that it's not better, and of course they wouldn't be biased at all.

catchahealthyhabit

please please reprint. CT, Vermont are working hard to get GMO's labeled nd Cally will have labeling GMO's on the ballot in Nov. These shirts can help the conversation! (Ndoki) please read Genetic Roulette by Jeffrey Smith. Norman Borlaug worked for Dupont and plant breeding and Genetically Modifying seed are not the same!!!!

meliskg

PLEASE PRINT MORE FOR WOMEN!!! Such a great shirt, such a bummer that people can't buy them!

meliskg

FOR ALL WHO WOULD LIKE A REPRINT, THERE IS A LINK BELOW THE ADD TO CART BUTTON TO REQUEST A REPRINT.
