No, your thoughts are not only valid, they're in large part true. People do worry too much about slogans (myself included), but I think everyone just wants to do well, and get whatever competitive edge is out there.

I don't think 'attacks' happen, exactly, in the sense that people go out aiming at a single person to knock their slogans down. I think people just stumble onto someone via forums or maybe the main slogan page, and just decide to vote 'No' to everything to give themselves a better chance. If all my slogans go down, I don't really see it as an attack, but rather someone taking advantage of the voting system to get the competitive edge in their favor. It's just a theory, of course.

Yes, I can see how that might happen.

I just think that Threadless will pick whichever one they fancy, whether it has 28% approval or 100%. There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to their selection process, its just purely what they like. Some of them have been voted on by 300 people, other 50!

PuppetMeat profile pic Alumni

Indeed. The scores are a small (perhaps the smallest part) about being printed. But they are a part of it, as it's usually a gauge of what will sell well (although it doesn't always work, either, lol).

Anyway, good topic! I haven't had such a constructive (at least in my view) conversation in quite some time. :)

Haha! Your apple dumplings really made me want to bake! Unfortunately its 4 am, and I only have 3 apples :(

I'm going to take a shower and then have a look and see what I can make!

Good points Bonnie and Puppet. I was surprised when I checked out Garnett F's After reading that, I resubmitted some of my previously deleted slogans that I really liked but scored in the 20 - 30 % range. I'm also not as worried if the percentages go down (though I don't hope for that, of course).

rossmat8 profile pic Alumni

There has been one shirt printed below 30% and very few under 40% so I still delete and would advise deleting anything under 30%

I delete slogs under 30% too, just to clean up my page...although for a long time I kept a few that I truly loved that failed to score...but after a while you just get so many.
I think it makes it easier for voters to look at a more concise selection. Sometimes there are just too many and I get tired, and never make it to the end of someone's page.

I went to the "Threadless in conversation" Tuesday night and from what Ross said Threadless prints whatever they want to print as long as it gets an ok-ley high vote-age and there is something cool about it. I do think that there is some favouritism going on and I think its strange that they have been a lot of reprints recently.

and a clean slogan page is a good slogan page, people with too many slogans with low votes should have a spring clean, you know who you are...

brakes profile pic Alumni

so many words. my poor brains are hurting.

actually good points by all. i think more than anything the score is a personal gratification. most of us will never get printed so the score is the only way to feel good about what we are doing. i understand the hurt feelings about everything going down. at the same time, i suppose it's something that happens to everyone and at least the community if far more positive than negative over all.

re: reprinting

I was wondering about this too, not because I think the reprints suck, because i don't and super-congrats to the reprinted sloganeers!

I was wondering because the reprints in conjunction with the "less is more" competition, and also the price changes, makes me think that Threadless is having to make cutbacks with the economic mess.

Reprinting and printing "less is more" style designs with no more than 4 colours and nothing fancy is cheaperrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

rossmat8 profile pic Alumni

Great points being made by everyone. Also I got to thinking the other day if their would be a copyright issue with the Olympics and my slow motion slogan. I don't know probably not, but I'm paranoid today that always happens when I leave the oven on.

brakes profile pic Alumni

also, Happy Birthday PuppetMeat!

forgot to mention it with all my other words.

rossmat8 profile pic Alumni

Happy Birthday PuppetMeat! Is it the 28th or the 27th since it's after midnight now? My niece's is the 27th so that's weird.

krokun profile pic Alumni

Happy birthday Puppetmeat!

I got some new ones up guys!

PuppetMeat profile pic Alumni

Hah, thanks brakes!

I'm not sure what to make of the reprints. The two FRICKINAWESOME reprints are classics (I Listen to Bands is a Bestee winner), so I thought maybe they were just giving people another chance at getting them. You make an interesting point, Bonnie.

PuppetMeat profile pic Alumni

Thanks ross, krokun, and Bonnie!

It was actually on the 23rd, lol. JBWell gave me a belated congratulations. :P

PuppetMeat profile pic Alumni

(voted krokun!)

I'm sure that is true, Puppetmeat...about giving people the opportunity to get them...its just that it is also cheaper for them to reprint, so everybody wins.

I was just wondering how the economic downturn has effected Threadless and making observations.

I am still new, but I have noticed that designs from just a year ago have gotten almost double the votes of designs now. Winning designs of the past will sometimes have close to 2,000 votes, whereas now, it is more like 800.

There must be less business...

I meant I was just wondering out loud and making observations.

brakes profile pic Alumni

well PuppetMeat, i've decided that your birthday is now the 28th. so congrats it's your birthday all over again!

brakes profile pic Alumni

i like it. i was going to say, you should submit that. go forth, it's PuppetMeat's unofficial post birthday!

I like it Ross

I think there should be some kind of punctuation after today:

I'm paranoid today, that always happens when I leave the oven on.

or, if you have enough characters:

I'm paranoid today...that always happens when I leave the oven on.

PuppetMeat profile pic Alumni

Thanks ross! No worries about missing it. I didn't bring it up myself, so I didn't expect anybody else to.

And thanks, brakes! Does that mean extra, post birthday cake?

Puppetmeat, I just realized that i have never had apple dumplings!

Do you or someone you know makes apple dumplings?

What kind of cake did you have for your birthday?

Can you tell I'm hungry?

PuppetMeat profile pic Alumni

I think apple dumplings were mentioned in the OSC blog. But no, I've never had them.

I actually replaced cake this year with a box of Apple Fritters (ironic, isn't it?). They're much better than most cakes, in my opinion. :)

apple fritters...droool

i get mixed up with the osc blog all the time

good morning shoguns! I promise you I will make a voting round on everyone soon.... I'm in time...

but.... there are only few days for voting Bonnie and I collabs! take a look:

thanks in advance!

thanks poloq!

Also, I have a new loco design up:

Tikimasters profile pic Alumni

Bonnie - I know you were specifically referring to me when mentioning the "attacks" and the "complaining about high scores". First of all, When each of your slogans has EXACTLY 3 new votes and each slog is down anywhere from 3-6% you'd be mad too. There is something very fishy about that which is why I was livid. NOT because I want to have the highest percentage or whatever it is you're accusing me of. Don't tell me that I don't have any "honor or dignity" or that I "don't know how this works", I know exactly how this works. Although I admit bitching wasn't the right way to go about it (I even apologized in a later comment), I don't appreciate you singling me out like that.

I'm truly sorry that I have to leave this comment. I'm sure you won't think of me positively after this but I've got to get my 2 cents in.

Tikimasters, plenty of people with high scores have complained about attacks and drops, not just you.

Tikimasters profile pic Alumni

Halogirl - You're totally right. It had been so long since I've subbed any I decided to rush those (I have a list of ideas). Thanks for your input. I was kind of leaning towards that view too.

I've also check out your new ones and I fancied a few. Threw some votes your way :)

I'll get to the rest of the shoguns asap, I promise!

and everyone else on this page i have been around you slogans pages and voted a hell of a lot of yes's :) i'm running a little dry of wit today so haven't got anything fresh today, but still have plenty of slogans with only around 20 or 30 votes, so if you've missed me out, go check me out :)

peace peeps x

just voted for plenty of your Gingivitism...really like creative juices

YAY! thanks bonnie, i'm all over your page like a rash :)

T-Lou profile pic Alumni

I thought your words were great Bonnie. Yes I have been guilty of it too :(
I think it happened after I blogged that a slogan was doing really well - and then it fell really rapidly. I don't think about it too much - altho I'd really like to get 1 slogan above 100 votes. Just for fun. I know it really makes NO difference to whether it gets printed or not - it's just for my own entertainment. Life's too short to be worried about slogans. But it is strangely addictive...

Thanks T Lou x

I thought it was brilliant one time, when you moaned a little about a high scoring slogan of yours dropping a couple of points, but it was still really high...
I said that even though the score dropped a tiny percentage, it was still a super high score, and then you immediately said, "you are right, thanks for the reality check"

You know, that is all I am trying to say....

Love you all :)

Tikimasters-First of all, When each of your slogans has EXACTLY 3 new votes and each slog is down anywhere from 3-6% you'd be mad too.

Actually, I wouldn't (be mad). If three people in a row score my slogans and hate every single one, then fair enough. Not everything you or I, or anyone on this forum does is funny, witty, thought provoking and brilliant. If three people in a row loved and voted positively for each of your slogans, would you be bothered? It works both ways.

I don't now how long you work on your slogans, but I have worked many many hours on designs that I love that barely get above a 1.00. All I am saying is that it is a good policy to just roll with the punches.

T-Lou profile pic Alumni

Warning science content!
Brightwood and Spam69: I am pretty sure dogs don't see in only B&W. It has been found that do see some colour - only its very limited.
According to , dogs do not see in black and white, they have colour vision similar to red/green colour blind people. They only possess two of the three types of core (colour sensing cells in the retina). Therefore dogs can not detect the difference between red and green.
I know its' a bit early.

Thanks T Lou!

I love being educated :)

I have heard that humans are supposed to only dream in black and white, but I TOTALLY dream in colour, does that make me not human?

Wow! A lot of conversations since I went to bed last night. Cheers to Bonnie and PM and others for some thought-provoking commentary. I probably lean more to Bonnie's viewpoints overall.

Krokun - Semi-fittest and charisma made me smile.
