I want to broaden my musical tastes, and hoping that you guys will recommend me some music that I'll like..

The only thing is that the music has to be upbeat, and I quite like strong beats!

Some stuff that I like includes:
Estelle - American Boy
Gnarls Berekly - Crazy
Basement Jaxx - Oh my Gosh
Black Eyed Peas - Pump it
Gwen Stefani -The sweet Escape
Juanes - La Camisa Negra
Prince - Kiss

Take this as a starting point to find me stuff I like.

Much appreciated folks :-)

I quite like Hurt by Johnny Cash - but it's not exactly uplifting or happy....quite the opposite in fact.

I'm Rolf... Tess listens to Cobra Starship... so her opinion is void... (Although Mika is a pretty uptempo and fun listen)

Hurt is a Nine inch nails cover, so you might like the original. I'm not really into NIN but their newer stuff is kinda uptempo dancy

Tess Fondie

lol rolf why do you hate them so much??
I watched a couple of their concerts online and I'm hoping that its the crappy audio from the camera and not what they really sound like. Cuz if so, I understand you completely

what about bands like less then jake or the reel big fish? those are way up beat, some of my favorite.

bobobob1230

I agree with merzi. Vampire weekend is great music.
If you lean towards hip hop, the roots. try "here i come" or "livin a new world"
If more dark post punk, Interpol. Try "PDA"
The shins roxors. Try "Australia" or "New Slang"

;D

I haven't heard of a lot of these bands/songs, but I'm gonna youtube them all today and see where it goes...

Thanks guys, and keep them coming!

Nymeria

Counting crows - accidentally in love.
Eagle eye cherry - save tonight.
I think that they're both pretty old songs but I seem to always hear of these things too late. Ah well, they're catchy and upbeat so why not?

Not a big fan of Crystal Castles (partly, I'm afraid to say, cos they're complete arseholes), but if you like the style, check out Duchess Says, who are better.

At the moment, I'm enjoying:

Ed Banger - Ed Rec Vol III (Awesome French electro banging)
Dananananaykroyd - Sissy Hits (spastic punk rock with great pop hooks)
The Blow - Paper Television (great catchy pop songs with weird but dancy electronic beats)
Flying Lotus - Los Angeles (dark, fuzzy atmospheric electronics and hip hop beats, reminiscent of Prefuse 73)

and based on what you list as your likes at the moment, you'd probably like French electro popster Yelle.

Yelle - A Cause Des Garcons (Original Version)

Yelle - A Cause Des Garcons (TEPR Remix)

And if you like Yelle, then you might like two other, older French singers: France Gall and Francoise Hardy.

realslimnatey

just download all the valorandvellum mixtapes

Wow, I killed this thread dead. Apparently no one can top Yelle!
