The challenge was

Design a not-so-plain white tee.

Hey there designers. In partnership with the Grammy nominated band Plain White T’s, we’re challenging you to design — you guessed it — a plain white tee! But there’s a little more to it than submitting a blank tee with no design.

Imagine a tee that will completely transform your concert going. Inside a dark venue, one design appears. Wear it outside to a music festival, and you see something different. Does this tee have superpowers? Nope. It uses one of the coolest screen print technologies under the sun (and moon): Ultraviolet and glow-in-the-dark inks!

How you use these inks is up to you. You can create a design using only UV or GID inks. Or, like The Cheshire by Skylar Hogan, Ghost in the Dark by Chow Hon Lam, and Tief Fairies by Frank Barbara, you can use them to complement your design. Fun, right?

Now, let’s get to the serious part. 25% of sales from the winning t-shirt will benefit Not for Sale Campaign, an organization that fights against human trafficking and slavery. The mission of Not for Sale is to create a world where no one is for sale, and it’s a cause close to the band members of Plain White T’s. So by participating in this challenge, you’re not just creating a fun band tee. You also have the chance to help them make a difference.

Want to use the Plain White T's logo in your design? Here's a hi-res file.

NOTE: We can print designs with the following UV ink colors: red, orange, blue, green, purple and brown, yellow. Here is a blog thread that can also answer some color and process questions.

The winner received

  • $2,000 cash

  • $250 Threadless gift code

  • Autographed guitar by Plain White T's

  • Autographed "Should've Gone to Bed" CD single

Not For Sale Campaign

Not For Sale fights modern day slavery around the world.

Using business creation, supply chain evaluation and aftercare aid around the globe. By creating enterprise for vulnerable communities, offering social services to survivors and those at-risk to human trafficking, and evaluating the use of forced labor in mainstream supply chains, Not For Sale works to make sure no one is for sale.
