Design Bedding For Bed Bath &Amp; Beyond!

by Threadless / None /

It doesn’t matter if you can properly pronounce “duvet” or know nothing about the European etymology of the word. What matters is that you have a chance to create a design or a pattern for a duvet with a matching pillow sham!* Just like these Threadless + Bed Bath & Beyond duvet covers, the designs chosen from this challenge will be sold online and in Bed Bath & Beyond stores throughout America. Keep in mind that everyone decorates their home differently, so all sorts of designs can be in the running. You can design for a university dorm room, first apartment, master bedroom, or whatever else you can think of!

Since this challenge is different than any other, here are a few guidelines: - You can use the same design for both the duvet cover and pillowcase or create coordinating designs for each piece. - Keep your design or pattern limited to 8 colors. - Mock up your design on these 3D templates to show the size and placement on a duvet cover and sham. - Designs that are too detailed may not print clearly.

Design A Backpack From Start To Finish!

by jesshanebury / None /

We hate to break it to ya, but summer’s on its last dregs. Soon it’ll be time to pack away the sunscreen and break out the books. But don’t fret, there’s one exciting thing about heading back to school: new supplies! And even better, you get to design every aspect of the most essential item in any back-to-school wardrobe.

You can create a simple pattern or design for both the outside and inside of the new Select Backpack. If your design is chosen, you will also help pick the stitching, straps, buckles, pockets, and interior organization of the backpack. But you need to be speedy, because this challenge will end super fast!

Once submissions close on August 10, we’ll immediately begin creating the chosen design right here in the USA. The backpacks will be cut, sewn, and produced in a factory located three miles from Threadless HQ in Chicago. We’ll share behind-the-scenes video of the production process daily until the backpack is released. Starting August 20, we’ll start selling a limited run of 250 backpacks just in time for the back to school season.

You have less than two weeks to submit your design, so sharpen your #2 pencils, download the submission kit and get to work!

Tech Update -- On Demand

by jonnyblujeans / None /

Threadless Techies have the greatest job in the world -- taking all of the fun ideas from the company (and the community), and translating them into working applications. We have a lot of exciting things in the works, and we want to share them with you as they come online.

You probably know that you can now buy iPhone cases for many of our designs, and that any new or reprinted designs will have a case available. You might not know that these are handled very differently than our traditional catalog offerings. Rather than creating them ahead of time and warehousing the items, we’re creating the cases “on demand”.

For us, “on demand” means we don’t print the case until it’s been ordered. It’s great because we can offer a larger selection, and launch new designs faster. But it required a lot of changes to our code base.

As a back-end developer, I’m focused on getting the data into the right place, in the right format. This project required a small team of developers, working with departments across the company, to pull off.

The first step was setting up the site to display and sell the items. It sounds simple, but so much of our logic depends on an item being in-stock, we had to rethink everything from the catalog pages to the shipments. In the end, these items have the same properties as our warehoused products, but with a special on-demand flag. Having to not add another data model was a big win for stability and maintenance.

After the order is placed, it takes a separate route from the normal orders. A special process detects it, prepares the artwork, and starts the printing. This is all happening on our new Django platform, which we’re excited about, and will be talking about quite a bit. When the case is finished printing, it’s returned to the normal flow for packing and shipping.

What this has given us, besides the opportunity to sell great-looking cases, is the flexibility to be more creative with our processes. As we come up with new products, and new ways to create them, we can use this foundation to bring them to the community.

So that’s our latest launch, we’ll be updating this blog regularly. We love hearing from fellow techies, and anyone else that wants to chat. We’ll do our best to answer any questions.

Neil Gaiman Inspires Us To Make Good Art. And We Think That's Pretty Great.

by Threadless / None /

By now, most of you have checked out Comics-On Tees Vol. 6. This volume is based on the story “The Day The Saucer’s Came,” written by super cool dude and renowned comic superstar Neil Gaiman. The 4 packs sold out yesterday, so we just ordered more! Grab yours before they sell out again!

We’re kinda star-struck by this dude, as many of you might be too. Maybe you saw him on The Simpsons, watched his Doctor Who episode, or read one of the 100s of comics he's written. Neil recently gave a super-inspiring commencement speech at The University of the Arts. Neil’s “make good art” philosophy fits pretty well with our way of thinkin’!

Thanks to Neil for being a part of Comics-On Tees! Come visit Threadless HQ! We could always use a good ol’ pump up speech.

And in case ya didn’t know, The Day The Saucers Came, Issue 1, Vol. 6 by Estudio Verso is the chosen design from the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund challenge. 25% of the sale of the tee designed by Estudio Verso will go to the CBLDF.

Create A Vintage T-Shirt Design For The Gap + Threadless Collection

by Threadless / None /

What is it about vintage tees that is so much cooler than modern, new fangled t-shirts? Is it the nostalgia of old type and design? Does the comfy worn-in feel of our favorite thrift store tee take us back to a bygone era? We're challenging you to capture that old-school look for our next Gap + Threadless collection.

Your challenge is to create a vintage themed design.

Create a design that takes us way back to when none of us were born. Keep in mind that we're now printing Threadless + Gap designs on tees for men, women, kids, toddlers, and babies. So your design can be whimsical, clever, funny or beautiful.

Hop in your brain's time machine and get started!

Submit A Knit Design For A Sweater, Hat, Or Scarf!

by Threadless / None /

Everyone knows we all look 45.2% more adorable when wearing a knit hat, sweater, or scarf. It's just science. We're thinkin' we can up that number to a clean 72% when that knit happens to be designed by you.

Help us test our hypothesis by submitting a design for a Select hat, sweater, or scarf! The Knit Collection will hit our warehouse shelves just in time for winter's frigid embrace.

Keep in mind: - All knit designs must be 2-3 colors. Your colors will be matched to the many available yarn
colors if your design is chosen. - For sweater designs, the collar and cuffs must be solid colors. Keep your design or pattern off of these areas. - We will translate these designs into knit, so some detail is allowed. But avoid textures and gradients, and do not submit a design that is too finely detailed. - Design for a hat, sweater, scarf, or all three! Mock up your design using templates from the Knits Sub Kit.
