Threadless Loves To Say Aaahhh!

by Threadless / None /

In 2000, Jake Nickell created Threadless with just the skin under his fingernails. Or something like that. Now, 12 years later, it’s time for Jake to start on his next entrepreneurial adventure. Jake is now Doctor Jake! He just completed his medical degree online and he’s excited to start practicing medicine in the Chicagoland area.

To start his new practice off right, we’re doing a special challenge to stock his office with the best lookin’ slabs of wood in in town!

Your challenge is to design a tongue depressor for Jake’s medical office.

This exclusive line of tongue depressors will be used only at Nickell Medical! Create a one color, simple design that reflect your perception of his new medical adventure. (medventure?) Use this image to submit your design.

Check out the prizing and submit your design.

We're Removing 40,000 T-Shirts From Our Inventory Today

by skaw / None /

Late last year we discovered that one of our suppliers was manufacturing blank t-shirts that were not up to our standards. We immediately stopped printing on those garments and ramped up our production on a much higher quality blank tee.

We have been working to figure out what to do with the affected inventory (it had been placed in our clearance section). Yesterday we discovered there are 40,000 affected units in our current inventory. Today we have made the decision to completely pull those down off our site and out of our warehouse.

Going forward, rest assured that creating a high quality product is a top priority for us. You only deserve the best! In addition to the better blank we are currently printing on, we are also working to produce a Threadless custom tee with our own fabric weight and cut specifications as well as a rigorous quality control process. Expect more news on that in the coming months.

If you've had issues with our t-shirt quality in the past and are skeptical about giving us another try, we'd love to prove it to you by involving you in the development of our custom tee. The first 5,000 people to sign up here will receive one for free when it's time to share.

We Want To Know What You Think!

by Threadless / None /

Threadless is currently undergoing a series of user experience evaluations run by a team of University of Michigan graduate students. The goal of these evaluations is to find ways for us to improve the site for the benefit of the entire Threadless community!

The team has designed a survey to provide better understanding of the needs and actions of all of you. This survey provides a chance for community members to help shape the future of Threadless. We would really appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to provide some feedback on how you personally use the site and what we could do better!

To show our appreciation, any registered user who completes the survey will be entered into a drawing for a $50 Threadless gift code.

Complete the survey here.

[+Duracell-] Chooses Jump! By Nino Benito For Print

by Threadless / None /

Some of you may remember the puppets that were hanging around Threadless HQ hosting challenges this past winter. Chad, the politician, hosted a voting challenge in which another Chad, aka [+duracell-] snagged top prize - the power to pick any unprinted design to be printed!

Jump! by Nino Benito was that design.

Here’s what Chad (the human) had to say about the design:

I chose this design because it evokes a bit of nostalgia for me. It appears to be a 50's sci-fi type graphic which I can envision being on a 90's rock concert poster. Like something Kozik or EMEK would create. Yes it's bold and deliberate, possibly considered Lowbrow. But it's still left open to the viewer as to what they want to take from it. Mostly though, I just think it looks cool. Plus, I thought it would make for some really fun and interesting customer action shots! :D

Congrats to Nino! We think Chad selected a great design!

Made By: Matheus Lopes And Esther Aarts

by Threadless / None /

We’re very excited to add two new artists to the Made by: collection!

For those that didn’t catch the first round, Made by: will give you, our artists, the opportunity to showcase your work in one central gallery-like location. Each artist's page will feature favorite reprinted tees as well as previously unprinted designs from their body of work. Made by: not only gives artists more exposure, but also gives fans a central location to view their favorite artists’ body of work. We’ll release 2 Made by: pages every month, each featuring a different artist.

Meet this month’s Made by: artists.

Matheus Lopes, aka mathiole, is from Belo Horizonte, Brazil. He has turned a lifelong passion into a career. He’s been creating art and design since the age of 14, and now runs a design and illustration studio with two friends called Estudio Verso.

Esther Aarts, aka gumbolimbo, is from Nijmegen, Netherlands. She runs a one person illustration and design studio named Esta. She commissions illustration and handlettering, and enjoys experimenting with small press side projects, like making mimeograph and gocco prints.

Congrats to both of our artists. Enjoy their work and snag some of it for yourself!

Do Sh*T That Matters!

by Threadless / None /

New tee Do Sh*t that Matters by Georgia Hill is the chosen design from the “typography off” hosted by COMMON and Threadless.

Georgia is a typographer, illustrator, and graphic designer who creates detailed, type-based artworks. She uses a contemporary handcrafted approach to highlight tongue-in-cheek phrasing. Her work has been featured in studios, commercial promotions, and group shows.

For the challenge, designers were asked to interpret the phrase “Do Shit that Matters” into their own typographic style.

For those that aren’t familiar, COMMON is a creative community for accelerating social change founded in January, 2011 by Alex & Ana Bogusky.

Here’s what the phrase means to COMMON: But doing shit that matters is hardly just something that we care about. As we’ve so thoroughly discovered in our community’s first year, doing shit that matters is important to almost everyone. Those four words are the reason we like getting up in the morning. They’re the reason we make the decisions we make. They’re the reason working doesn’t really feel like work. Most of the time.

Nice work, Georgia! We hope this design is an inspiration to everyone that wears it!

We’d like to know, what shit have you done this year that mattered? Share in the comments below.

Design A T-Shirt About Empowering Women To Change Their World.

by Threadless / None /

In many developing countries, women aren't able to make their own decisions about marriage and children. As a result, many girls never finish school, become mothers at a young age, and face high mortality risks in childbirth. If mothers can learn more, earn more, and live longer, they can better care for themselves and their families. CARE is focused on improving the health and education of women and children, and you can help.

Design a t-shirt about empowering women to change their world.

In creating your design, think about some of the basic yet crucial care that mothers worldwide provide to their children. Simple things such as affection between babies and mothers, better hygiene, and regular checkups can improve the health of mothers and their babies. By helping increase awareness for CARE, you can decrease mortality rates for mothers and children in 87 countries. You can make a positive change for these women by showing you care about their health. The chosen design will be sold on Threadless, and 100% of net proceeds from the sale of each tee will go to CARE.

Check out the prizing and submit your design!

We're Proud To Announce Our 2012 Ambassador Lineup!

by Threadless / None /

Hey Threadlessers! We hope you're having an awesome 2012 so far. This year is bringing some big changes for us, among them a bigger & better Ambassador program. Most of the work that the Threadless community team as well as the Ambassadors will be doing is aimed at encouraging great people to participate in creating great art together.

On the people side, we want more people to know about of Threadless, get more people that are already aware to start participating, and keep everyone already in it excited. On the art side, we want to inspire and educate artists to create great art, to be able to review it to make the right decisions about what to print, and llet all of you make as much art as possible for all the product & partner categories we have.

Here's your Ambassador lineup for 2012 and what they'll be working on to start out the year:

Alvaro (aka alvarejo): Alvaro will be hosting local artist workshops in Chile. He'll also be working on creating some awesome tutorials for the Threadless submission process, and design in general that any of our users can learn from.

Ian (aka Ian Leino): Ian will be working on creating a Threadless community sourced magazine! (More on that soon...)

Priscilla (aka valorandvellum): Priscilla will be hosting artist workshops at schools in California, with the goal of an expanded workshops program later on.

Tom (aka Thomas Orrow): Tom will be working on community and artist spotlights on the site. He'll also be working on a community sourced comic book! (More on this exciting project soon!)

The Ambassadors will be reporting directly to you, the community, frequently over the course of the year so you can all see exactly how their hard work is making things better for you! They will also continue to help us out in special blog challenges and cool community driven events, much like last years Ambassadors.

Congrats to our 2012 Ambassadors! On that note, we'd also like to thank Evan (aka: FRICKINAWESOME) and Aled (aka: fatheed) for their awesome work as ambassadors last year. You rock!

We'd love to hear what you think, so feel free to email with your questions or ideas!
