Starting a new piece of work

1) What canvas size (ex: 1000 x 1000 pixels or 10 by 10 inches) do you begin your work with?
2) What brush size do you begin your work with? I know it may change but what is your standard brush size for just lineart? Or maybe what size you use for smaller details and also outlines?

I'm wondering about this because I am pretty amazed on how beautiful the execution can be on other people's designs. My designs look so flat and the lineart looks too thin and pixely.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

  1. I do at least 10x10 inches at 300 dpi. Lately I've been doing 12 - 15 inch squares though.
  2. For lineart I use a pencil tool at somewhere between 5 - 10px, depending on color and detail and other things.
