Process:

I used a non-photo blue pencil to sketch out the design and then used Micron pens to ink.

Here is the final ink work drawing:

Wow amazing artwork dude!

I would place him at a lonely road at night, because Death rides in the night, yes, but all alone... ;)

Yeah, I was thinking something along those lines.

Mantichore

that looks great! maybe just some blurred streetlights as a background, like those streaks of light in Akira.

so amazing wow

Amazing analog work, man. A ghost town or abandoned/ruined city might work nicely.

Thanks guys. Mantichore, i like the idea of street lights.

I really love the background but feel like it needs some sense of movement. It's stunning regardless. :-)

I know what you mean, I will have to figure out a way to render that. I was also thinking about adding some dead flowers in the foreground.

The background and whole design is amazing I would definitely wear this

Zai Alam

The updated background is beautiful. Maybe if you add 2 or 3 layers of small flowers in the foreground and add slightly increased motion blur with each layer, it would add a sense of movement? Worth trying to see if it works.

I would definitely buy this tee!

Looks great

Great job on the background. Fits the piece very nicely. I'll have to be the voice of dissent and say implying motion isn't necessary. It feels more like a quiet, contemplative piece where a lack of action is appropriate. I'd avoid blurring as it'll detract from the crispness of the design.

But if you must, I'd limit it to maybe tilting the trees in the background and adding faint motion lines.

man oh man oh man oh man....

everything about this is awesome

You can lose the motion lines and just keep the dust clouds. I know I suggested faint motion lines, but the dust clouds convey motion perfectly. They're a very nice touch and fit the illustration better.

This is a great departure from your usual style.

Thanks guys, any suggestions on title? I am about ready to sub this sucker.

Man this is so good. The detail and lighting is amazing.

The lack of motion is minor but you could imply motion by subtracting motion lines from the dark background behind the motor cycle. Either way, this would be a 5er from me.

That's exactly what I had in mind, but those dust clouds are sublime.

Nikoby, you could pull a page from the Wharton book and call it "Night Rider". "Death Rides at Night" is literal and simple, like Hemingway. Nothing wrong with that.

There's so much great texture and detail in the large version. Really like how you rendered the moon with the line halftones. This looks like an instant classic.

What made you choose that bike? Just curious because that's my favorite part of the whole thing. Love seeing people (in real lifes) sporting old bikes like that.

nikoby
nikoby profile pic Alumni

I like old bikes as well. Just thought it would be appropriate because Death is old too ;)
