Stitched: the Threadless Art Zine - Deadline extended! Sign up now!
Threadless is all about creation. But it is also about community and collaboration. As an ambassador, I've wanted to create a project here at Threadless that highlighted those strengths and was focused on pure artwork, rather than creating art for commercial purposes. I also wanted a project that would be something that could encompass creative people from all fields, and not just illustrators and designers.
That's why, as an Ambassador, I want to put together the first ever Threadless art magazine based solely on collaborative work, with submissions open to anyone in the Threadless community. This will be open to works from any creative medium, and while it could certainly be two illustrators working together, I would like to actively encourage people to collaborate from different disciplines - a designer modifying photos of a sculptor's work, a writer and photographer collaborating to tell a story, a crafter creating new characters based on an illustrator's designs - the possibilities are endless!
This project will be about pushing your creative boundaries and creating the work that you want to create without worrying about votes, scores, comments, likes or any of the other ways that we quantify art in a digital age. I'm hoping this will spark some interesting new creative ideas and get people creating and working together in new ways.
I want to leave this as open as possible, so here are the few basic guidelines.
- Each piece MUST be the work for at least two people.
- Every issue will have a theme, and works should reflect that theme in some way
- We don't like to censor people, but please refrain from using pornography, racism, or anything that could commonly be considered offensive in your work. Remember, our audience starts at 13 years old!
- Each piece MUST be submitted using the template linked below, and following the instructions included there
- Each collaborative team may choose to submit 1 or 2 single page works, or a 2-page spread
The theme for the first issue is "It's A Secret" - and you're welcome to interpret that in any way that you'd like. Government conspiracies, childhood secrets, cryptography, surprise parties - run wherever your mind takes you.
This initial issue will be a digital release, but if there is enough interest, there is the chance that in the future this could be a physical publication.
We want to give people time to find creative partners, brainstorm ideas, create and go through several rounds of collaborative modifications, so the deadline for entries is MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 3rd.
Templates are available for Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. If you are using another program please see the basic "instructions" file.
Now get out there and start creating!
