We're laminating our first Threadless Tee into a prosthetic socket today. Pretty excited it's going to be McBess. It's for a smaller leg, so i'm hoping the design places well on the leg.

This is awesome.
My sister has a prosthesis. Always thought it would be cool to draw some crazy design on it. No chance of that ever happening though.
-
So the actual t-shirt fabric is being bonded to the prosthetic? Really interested in seeing that process. I would think that the thickness of the fabric would be an issue when sizing/shaping the limb so that it looks equal to the person's other one(s).

What sort of prosthesis does your sister have, if you don't mind my asking?
T-Shirts laminated into socket designs is a pretty neat process. Basically that thin layer of fabric gets vacuumed into the resin and graphite and flattens out to near nothing. We've even had requests to incorporate non-fabric elements into limbs. like a watch, for example.
i'll try to show as much detail in the process as possible, though it happens pretty fast so it'll be interesting to try to capture it all.

I don't know the exact name for it.
looks like this:
She is only missing her foot.

Gotcha, yeah a leg like that has the skin over it. It's a personal preference for most amputees. So for that model you wouldn't be able to incorporate a shirt into it. However there are some pretty neat tattoo models for this style.

it won't let me embed the video, but here's a small section of the process video timelapse

It depends on their situation. Most have developed a positive outlook on it the situation and nearly all have a great sense of humor. That said, there are certainly some who have not reached that level quite yet... however most amputees I know love to joke around about their legs.

i met a guy last week that due to some rare cancer lost his leg from just above his knee and one of the first things he did was make a joke about it which i thought was cool. all of this is pretty freakin' awesome btw.

Looking super good and shiny today! Having the techs get it ready for final presentation on Wednesday.

thanks guys, i'm hoping to make the next one for an above knee amputee, those are way bigger usually (because it's replicating a thigh and not a calf) so it lends itself to a bigger canvas for the design.

That one is very nice.
I have to agree with @DesignProxy That rabbit one on someone with a kick ass sense of humor would be amazing.

This would look very cool too!
Basically if you get a fabric wet, that's what it's going to look like when it's laminated. So black gets super black, white gets off-white, colors tend to get muted a tiny bit or sometimes get bolder depending on the color and fabric.
