About this Design

This image shows a detailed, monochrome illustration of a donkey's head peeking over a wooden fence. The donkey has a curious and friendly expression, with wide eyes and large ears pointing upwards. The detailed texture of its fur and the wood grain of the fence are rendered in a style reminiscent of traditional etching or woodcut prints.

Black and white ink illustration of a sweet donkey leaning on a fence. Drawn using one of my own photographs as reference, I created this drawing by hand using fine marker pens, built up in many layers to create the intricate details of the fur. The domestic donkey (Equus asinus) is a working animal descended from the critically endangered African Wild Ass and are in the same family as horses. In the south of England I'm lucky to be able to see donkeys regularly in fields or free roaming in heathland areas. Many are very curious and will come over to say hello like this one here!
