WOW. This is amazing. Dude, your illustration skillz impress me everytime I see one of your designs.
And, this is one of your best. I'll be SHOCKED if you don't get a print out of this. CHA-CHING!
quite simply the best colour work i've seen on threadless.
you get my dollahs!!!!!
i certianly agree that you have skills with pencil but i have to say i feel like it isn't such an original design. not in concept but i think you paid 'homage' a little too much and might border on copyright infringement. i think people like it because it DOES look like it came straight from the book and that is great but what does that say about your own originality. with such talent i'd be interested to see an original design from you that doesnt copy someone elses style as much.
Hey thanks everyone for all the great comments! I'm glad you enjoy this piece.
Kmaron-easy answer- check out my other subs or visit my website, this particular piece looks like a Sendak piece because it was meant to, not because I have no skills of my own.
(sidenote: there never was any pencil or even penwork in this piece. It is 100% digital start to finish. Just me, a Wacom, and Corel Painter)
Here comes the print-train! Woooo! Wooooo!
insania. and im using it as my wallpaper.
i love that book! this is great!
I agree with eighten and kmaron up there.
As much as I love you work and respect your talent, I don't think this could be described as your own work. Each one of the characters is easily recognizable from Sendak's book. At first I didn't even see the minor differences until I looked up some pics of the original. Like eighten mentioned, if you want to do a parody or homage, you should have changed a whole lot more. Dude, you're so talented, why not create something in this style with your own characters?
This would be the same as someone submitting some Looney Tunes characters with in different colours or with pants on.
Again, I do like the other stuff you do (I 5'd your other sub), but this just doesn't quite cut it.
As far as a "parody" shirt goes, i don't think you need to take extreme liberties to make a character look vastly different from the original. I'd much rather see the character (how I remember them) in a goofy wacky crazy town scenario. I like this a lot rocky. As far as the copyright garbage goes I have no idea how that works. I think it's fine considering we have all of those god damn silhouette parodies running around.
This is basically amazing.
amazing illustration and linework. I think it's a great homage.
great stuff 5$ DO IT
Please print this :(
I would do ANYTHING to get this printed
print it. print it now.
pleeeeease print it!!!
Just curious as to why this isn't wrapped around my torso yet.
probably because of copyrights? :( i want it too
Bump for a print!?
