raquette? those controllers are called 'manettes' in french.

I'm thinking it means 'even though you can play virtual tennis with it as if it were a racquet, it isn't a racquet, it's a wii controller. of course maybe I got that dead wrong :D I think it's a cool idea.

I think that the magritte reference will be lost on a lot of people but they will still like this on a lesser level. I love it on all levels.

I think that's okay to use french/english gibberish for that word because it's really the only word you need to understand for english-speaking people if you already get the magritte joke. I'd just use the real spelling "raquet" tho. Also, this isn't a very timeless reference or the most clever turn of the phrase, but a decent parody/homage no doubt.

Don't wanna hate on this design, i like it, but I don't think you fully understand Rene Magritte's point of his Treachery of Images piece. I'm not actually sure about that :) The point of Magritte's pieces was that, no matter how much a painting may look like a real object, it isn't the real object - it cannot perform its function, it cannot 'satisfy emotionally', as the artist himself said. So I do think there is a similarity here - a painted pipe is not a pipe - try filling it with tobacco :) Similarly, a wiimote will represent a tennis racquet on the screen, will behave like one in the framework of the game, but isn't really a racquet - just try hitting a real ball with it. sorry for the rant :/

Boloyde... I'm guessing there may be some bias in the "I don't get these people," as you've voted on only one submission since joining threadless a few days ago (with an average score of 5). I'm guessing this happens to be the one you rated.... and happens to be a friend of yours ;-) I big part of what makes Threadless so great is friends and community getting to support you, so I'm not complaining. Hop around and vote on some others while your here. With that said, I really think the illustration is good, and I'm not worried about it being 100% Magrite accurate or not. Good stuff!

The this is not a pipe was a perfect execution of a concept. Using someone else's idea without permission is not acceptable. This is in a way plagiarism although it is different enough to avoid it, it is a blatant ripoff of the original idea.

I'm not going to argue, but the fact that a very very similar design has printed works against this design.

I love it, very good take on the original "pipe" version. :) The only issue I could see they might have with this is that it's been done with other objects a few times already on Threadless. I really like it though, great idea! http://www.threadless.com/critique/56363/New_Hunting_Ground

Turns out it wasn't but was inspired by the same person who inspired the pipe design. So I was wrong and I am sorry let's just move on. It's cool I scored this long before I commented and haven't changed my score. If it was people that were going to be around I'd care but they're one hit wonders so I'll let them have their fun.

well, rossmat is a Threadless community member, which is more than I can say for you, Fike. And he has the maturity and decency to apologize for speaking out of turn, which is also more than I can say for you. You really are not doing your friend's design any favors. This comment board looks like a spit-fest now, not a list of design-related comments. It leaves a very poor impression.
