So, what I had in mind for a trend for Threadless was a reimagining of old images in the public domain. There is a wealth of fascinating, obscure and downright awesome images from days long gone that would make sweet tee designs and I think it’s something that everyone can do. It doesn’t require any special equipment or skill – just the ability to identify the potential in images that exist in the public domain and be creative with them.
Far from ripping-off the original works, I feel it's a way of paying homage to these works and their artists. The way I see it; if people are reusing and getting inspired from my work in 100 years, I would have done something right.
Thank you for reading.
I can dig it
Wow, I'll wear it, for sure
The subtle skull is amazing.
Great work man!!
Really good idea, man.
THIS IS GREAT!
I like the description more than the piece, hehehe! But I do apprecaite what you are doing here, I like the added touch of the skull and the ironic nature of snake-oil salesmanship in the selling of old-timey cigarettes to an unsuspecting public. Cool idea for the contest.
The subtle skull is really good. Dig it.
Bring back the old images. I dig it! $
all nice ;D
I love the concept. And it's true - if someone dug up my work 100 years from now, I'd be bouncing with happiness up in the nether-realm :D
plus it looks great on the tee.
i adore this design!
I feel a bit weird about using others artwork, but I cant deny that this looks awesome on the shirt.
I just hope that in a way it doesnt become a trend here on threadless, and people take it the wrong way and sorta start getting lazy and just putting others work on a shirt.
but yours is a good example since you added a twist to it, you're a clever dood 5$
I totally dig it!
FANTASTIC! I like that you decided to sub it!!!
i love how this looks on the tee! i'd buy it for sure
I too am glad you submitted this. So what if it incorporates a public domain image, it's experimental, clever and it works.
Sweet shirt! I'd buy!
The irony here is that the only reason you can use this particular piece of art is because something was done quite wrong originally. Its a good tee design though, and a clever use of appropriated work.
Oh wow, I love the subtlety of this!
You make some really good points. Really cool idea for the comp and you're right, it makes an awesome-looking tee! $5
The skull is awesome $5
subtle and amazing!!congrats
You ripped this off. I've seen that very same picture in an old advert for cigarettes!
Check out mine!
pretty nice!good luck
Retro rocks if done the right way. And fatheed shows us how to do it! Luv it!
nice. I like this
Great idea. $5
Very printable but I can't see this a new trend. Still, 5
Did you add the text too? I could see it either way as cigarettes were advertised for all sorts of ridiculous things. Regardless I really...like really want this. I love the color...everything. Money money!
i really want to wear this shirt!
I survive on public domain art! Not seeing it happening as a trend but I like what you did.
Forget my question. I'm not very observant sometimes =(
such a great shirt
I have asthma, thank god for all these cigarettes!
The nature of the original ad compared to public perception of cigarettes today makes the skull, imo, redundant.
I'd wear it without the skull.
Great looking shirt, and I like your explanation. Thumbs up!
$5.. i love the colors and the message is nothing but FACTUAL... :D
looks so good on the shirt!
I would argue that making hundreds of dollars off of someone else's work with minimal if any actual original input from yourself is not only something no one should be OK with, but also already a very profitable trend.
This looks really awesome Aled.
Great concept, fantastic execution!!!5$
awesome. really like the theme you explained
I know there's been a little controversy over this design, but I have no problem with the re-use of stock images as long as it is done well, which this is. I'd wear this, perhaps not on red, but on almost any other colour
Super affen zeit fantastich! radfahren! bo$$
A lovely looking T-shirt!
PS I'm glad I gave up smoking!
and cant stop staring!!
love the subtle message in this!

The skull on the right looks pretty cool too
it makes a great shirt! i would definitely wear it.
sooooo great. 5$5$
one of my faves for this comp
i dig your concept and love the shirt! i also really dig that skull saying muhahahaha
Kinda wish it was just the image, without the text -- I'm worried people may not see the skull and get the wrong idea.
But I'd still definitely wear this.
This is classic.
Great Title. Due to technical restraints, I can't vote on this, but I like it. Looks nice on the shirt.
