This design was inspired by a line of down-turned faces I saw at a bus stop. They were so stony and absorbed in their devices that this came to mind.
People will probably see this as an anti-cell phone jape, but I feel that modern technologies have been a huge net positive for humanity. People have always sunk into personal worlds at bus stops and coffee shops. Rather than a newspaper or book, we now have the ability to connect directly with those we care about.
Maybe the moai are missing out on the scenery before them. Or maybe, for the first time, technology has freed them from their stony foundations.
