"It was just a shot that represented the ordinary American out there doing his duty."
Joseph John Rosenthal
astounding imagery and concept.
I didn't know what this was in the beginning, except for the ink spot. I would rotate the tip so it's more obviously a pen.
Wow, this is definitely one of the best takes on this concept! Beautiful 5$!
this is absolute great concept & convey the message so well!!! U did excellent job on this!! A must print!!!! $5 gold
yup... right on!
Wow thanks for all the great comments to date guys & don't forget to vote :)
sorry Childog/flammenstrahl but I don't understand how the tip can be rotated you can only write & hold a pen one way I think if it was turned around it would look kind of weird - is it just me or what do others think?
Great concept & execution!
this is fantastic.
thanks 4 all your comments guys - I will redraw the tip later tonight and put an updated version on the critique so its less confusing - thanks again for all the great comments and suggestions!
Hi guys - As per some of the suggestions made above I have re-drawn the pen tip and also added some more background detail etc - I think this new version is 10xbetter than the above so I hope you can check it out - thx 4 voting and all your comments to date (in case the below link does not work the new version can be found in my profile under critiques)
needs more comments! I think this is genius simplicity :)
I want the truth!
You can't handle the truth! Son, we live in a world that has walls. And those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives...You don't want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall.
We use words like honor, code, loyalty...we use these words as the backbone to a life spent defending something. You use 'em as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it! I'd rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you're entitled to!
gtoast99 your right the original Rosenthal photo was of Marines - this tribute however is everyday folk ,citizens, voters - note the teen hoodies and granny with walking stick - No code Red here Son...
