flowers in the attic
wow...this is beautiful...yeah..I agree with you. Softer colours would add more of an impact. keep the strong red and black but change the shirt colour? light yellow? soft baby blue?
Blow all your colour critz, it would work on any t-shirt, thats the beauty of such a flipout design.
haha, banksy would definitly be proud! I absolutely LOVE this t-shirt! (buy + 5)
this is absolutely wonderous.
Amazing, best design i've seen so far in terms of visual effect. 10/10
absolutely tremendous concept... really beautiful if not extremely morbid... print this! my only comment would be possibly work on the figure a little, the tones... This definately deserves to be sitting at number one shirt!
I just wanted to give my appreciation to everyone who liked my design.
I haven't been able to top it yet, but I'm trying.
Anyway, thanks to everyone who left feedback, good or bad - I'm just glad it made an impact.
And yea . . . I almost cried when I saw it on red too. But hey, they came though with the khaki (& the red is already discounted to $10).
Thanks again to threadless & the threadless community. Now if they would only pay me so I can get one.
prints available here: http://www.gutterpark.com/gpmerchmenu.html
the movie "flowers in the attic"
should the shirt be related to it in any way?
or did you just rip the title?
jbyron, I know the likliness of you seeing this is pretty rare, but just in case...
Just snagged this one in medium.. saw so few left on the stock chart, I had to. Good stuff, I'll be uploading my photo of it in 2-5 days ;D
For the next reprint, please offer a basic black tee, 2C white/red print as well. That'd be awesome!
Love this shirt
Bought the black with metallic silver guy
A lighter shade (maybe white) back color with the guy in black and red butterflies would be the more favorable to me.
you have a lot of skill creating a powerful image...
if i can only be half as good as you that would be awesome.
although i like the design a lot, i wouldnt buy it because of its suicidal tendencies... just not a good idea for me to wear.
im just wondering, did threadless pay you more than what is normally paid out? because you deserve it considering its been reprinted a bazillion times. if only you were getting royalties, youd be a rich man.
the only short i have, which random ppl on the street start talking to me and asking a'bout the shirt. it just rockz!!!!!
very cool. waiting for reprinting in black !!!
Yet the design loves you.
i bought this shirt. it comes tomorrow, im so excited. its so symbolic. :]
a lot of my friends have this shirt. and of course its not fun when a lot of people have the same shirt you do. but this is an xception. i bought this shirt yesterday at the ten dollar sale. awesome. i was so happy that it was still in my size.
my sister bought this shirt.
it must have been so easy back then.
i love this design so much!!!! i bought it on black, and it's my favorite threadless shirt!
i just bought it. haha. it came today.
lol. im wearing this shirt RIGHT NOW.
LAWL DATS HILARIOUS.
did north dragon steal this shirt, or was this shirt stolen from north dragon??
WHY do you keep bumping designs that have already been printed and ask for them to be printed?
Besides, this emo-as-hell design has been printed so many times it's been RETIRED. Go buy an eBay knockoff.
They already printed it. Many, many, many times.
ill sell you one
Now if you tried to post this you would get people saying "WHAAA! This suicide shirt offends me!" and you would get a bunch of controversy then it would end up with a 2.10 or something like that.
Or just a load of people saying "wow, this sure is some emo shit". At least, if it were submitted in the current horrendous pink-on-black colour scheme.
what's this design? I've never seen it before
did a band use this design for something?
yeah, about a zillion have.
ah. someone posted a pic of this long ago in my myspace comments, but i had no idea it was from here, much less a tee.
I really like this design on black, and I'm waiting patiently for a reprint so I can buy it, but I really wish it were called "Butterflies in the Attic" instead because every time I read the title it reminds me of that awful Flowers in the Attic series, and is very off-putting :(
Red, Pink, and Black
Not a rip dogboy - hate to be overly sensitive - but i am the OG.
Basic rip of 30 seconds to mars:
Sorry looking at the date of the first post it looks like they might have ripped you
I see that the orig design wasnt in black... :) congrats for the reprint
GOD I KNOW IT'S LIKE BLAH BLAH REPRINT BLAH BLAH FASCIST COMMUNIST REPUBLICAN SOCIALIST MEDIA SWINE ALL UP IN THE BUTTERFLIES AND GUNS AND THE NRA IS LIKE "NO! GUNS GOOD NOT BAD!" AND COPYING PLAGIARISM BUT NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE ABOUT THE ANIMALS!
platok9, you obviously have NOT read anything that was previously posted prior to you. Please do because jbyron does not deserve to be called a plagiarizer.
beautiful... love it
This shirt was my background and it was a threadless design this entire time!?
banksy? i like that guy.
i can only hope people are saying to him - "wow, you made a lot of money on jason byron nelson piece."
yea, probably not.
hey jason, im reading so many people back talking this design or trying to find someway to point out why its wrong. I dont feel like its necessary to compare this to what someone else did or all of a sudden declare it a total rip-off. so what its popular and its been reprinted but that only shows that people truly like it and theres nothing you can do to change that. people coming on here just to say they dont like it is kind of pointless. its like they cant appreciate what an artist puts into the community just because they didnt have the chance to do something as great. i know you probably know this but i thought it should be said. keep doing what your meant to! nice work
I've searched, and can only find references to this design, and people calling it a Banksy with no citation. I've even found a few arguments over whether Banksy or JByron did it first. I can't even find anything suggesting a Banksy (or any other) version existed before December 2003 (most of these arguments seem to have arisen between 2006 and 2008), nor can I find any image that can actually be attributed to Banksy except for one - there's a print being sold along with other Banksy-ish designs. The image is changed a bit, as are the others including real Banksy designs, so I'm inclined to say that is not a legitimate source either and that the items they're selling are not licensed (they also have prints using other artists' names, but with tweaks to the original pieces; I will not link it here but it's pretty easy to find).
What I have seen the most, by far, is the shirt image at the top of this page more than once, with credit attributed to Banksy. Even if it was a Banksy original, why not use an image of it? Because it doesn't seem to exist.
As far as I can tell, people who say this is a Banksy are either confused or think it looks like it should be a Banksy. Neither JByron nor Banksy originated this drawing style, or even this stark aesthetic. I have a collection of posters dating back to the early 1960s that depict simple, darkened single-color figures with bright colorful accessories. One, I believe entitled "Growth", features a dark green girl letting go of a bright orange balloon. Ten years before Banksy was even born.
This is not a banksy piece at all you idiots.
which one was first?
I just got off the phone with Banksy and he would like a reprint.
This does look like Banksy's style, but it's not one of his designs. I wrote and asked him through his website. And he actually replied...
Thanks for your email.
Please allow us to settle the argument.
The design on the t-shirt you referred to is not a work by Banksy.
