Alexandra Marie: These arejust some terms popularly used by the Cockneys in England. So 'apples and pears' means stairs, so someone might say "We'll just take the apples and pears to the second floor."

Robert DeNiro?

TONICACAT

I love the idea! You can get a good list of slang on the Lock Stock DVD.

da Face

This is great. $5

Ok, I love that people don't get this and lets face it why should they. Cockney rhyming slang originated in London as a way of talking in code so that coppers ( police ) wouldn't know what you were talking about. Some of it is now part of the English language ( in the U.K ) as a whole eg. Telling a porkie = pork pie = lie. Other slang is more centred around just London and changes all the time. Some of it I think is great but alot of it is just an affectation ( why say Current Bun when you can say the word sun which is much shorter ? ) As for the T - good concept but could have been done better.

I looove cockney rhyming slang, but to me it's not a great fit for the shirt medium.

lol. awesome.

So, they replace a word that's rhymes with the word they actually mean? And the person that they're talking to will get it because it's in context?

For example:

Non-cockney: Let' take the train to the park.

Cockney: Let's take the horse's mane to the park.

If I understand this correctly, it sounds super fantastic.

Mr Rocks

I took a butchers at this, and knew there'd be Barny Rubble. If I wasn't Hank Marvin for a Ruby Murray in my Darby, I'd wip off me syrup and let this sweaty know this design is the muts nuts.

Not bad for a kiwi huh Steve? $5

jpiatt

This is mirrored as smell.

phones

i'm a low down dirty dog. grrrrrrr

Tonteau

It would be "I'd love to give you a lady"

You're not supposed to say the word that rhymes.

(matthijs)

makes a great tee

cheers for the comments so far ppl, but it looks like this one is heading down the gary glitter… ;)

weirdpoopoobaby

I'm liking it. But if it doesn't get up then I'm sure there's a design lurking about involving the gary glitter...

Krakaboom

Is 'Gary Glitter' supposed to be 'shitter'? Because that's just gross - and yet strangely appropriate.

haha, yeah that's what gary glitter means :)

Since so many Americans don't get it, it may not get the score it deserves.

deboraborialis

(tom foolery=jewellery
Richard III=bird=woman)

karma666

i don't understand how people aren't "getting it" when the shirt itself is an introduction to the concept.
p.s. i'm totally septic
