The challenge was

Create a design inspired by The Dark Crystal.

Enter the ominous, mystical world of Jen, Kira, and Fizzgig to create a t-shirt inspired by Gelflings, Garthim, or any of the puppet creatures in The Dark Crystal.

Just as the Mystic master sends Jen on an epic quest to retrieve the missing shard of the Dark Crystal and restore balance to a divided world, you too must embark on a journey. Your adventure begins with a visit to the land of Thra, where you will encounter the wise and aged Mystics, the villainous Skeksis, and even slimy Nebries. If you are triumphant, you will save your world from forever answering to the forces of evil—or at least see your design printed on a t-shirt!

Keep in Mind:

  • Use your original artwork.

  • No adult references (sex, drugs, alcohol, violence, profanity, gambling, etc.) allowed.

  • Don't use any logos in your design.

  • Only characters from The Dark Crystal may be used; references to outside characters are not allowed.

  • The winner received

    Travel back in time to the fantasy world of Thra. Jen and Kira, surviving members of the Gelfling tribe, set out to find the crystal's missing shard and begin a dangerous journey that will bring them face to face with evil Skeksis and mysterious creatures. Jim Henson's Creature Shop worked to build both animatronics and soft puppets for this film, marking it as the first ever all-puppet full length feature. Directors Jim Henson and Frank Oz created a masterpiece of fantasy based on the designs of artist Brian Froud that has earned its place in cinematic history as one of the must-see classics of its genre. Since its premiere in 1982, Jim Henson's visionary fantasy classic has been celebrated at screenings, on DVD and online, and in collections of comics, manga, figurines, sculptures, and plush. The new website will aggregate all the narratives of The Dark Crystal universe and include artwork and behind the scenes archives.
