The challenge was
Illustrate and Educate with Botanical Art
Be-Leaf in Plants
Ahh the study of plants. How do plants work? What makes them grow, sprout, thrive, and survive? Behold Botany, the study and science of plant life. Botanical illustration, depicting the form, color, and details of plant life, can be traced back to somewhere between 50 and 70 CE with an illustrated book by Greek botanist Pedanius Dioscorides. It was used to help readers identify plant species for medicinal purposes. Remember, most of modern medicine is derived from plants.
Now’s the time to get to the root of your illustrative craft. Gather your worthy houseplant specimens and give us an educational depiction of flora and fauna. Or flex your flower power and create a modern take on these historical drawings. Be imaginative! Your plant creations could be based on the real thing or completely made up in a pure fantastical depiction of plant life on another planet, or from your favorite film, book, childhood home. You decide how these plants are revived!
