i get what you are trying to say. but if most people think litterally then it would be harder to put across what you have here. just saying that sometimes you have to go against what you like to please the crowd.

I'm torn- the illustrations are extremely cute, but the nationality stuff is all a little too far off for me. I think if you found a way to make canadian bacon and an english muffin fun to draw, maybe used a u-shaped kielbasa and made the french bread actually french bread instead of a slice of something *holding* french bread... it'd be great. just a lot of little things that are frustrating if I let me brain think too hard, I guess. But I must say, still ridiculously cute little foods.

tomburns on Nov 17 '06 its french toast, not french bread. the way the illustration is constructed, each character is : nationality=adjective, food item=noun. pretty simple. i really dont see how anyone couldnt 'get it' right off the bat. thanks for the comments though!

$5 oh and one small thing: the hat on the english muffin is a bit difficult to make out. maybe if you made it slightly bigger or something....just right now it sort of blends into the muffin. but i love! |

Aww... I got it right off the bat. It's cute. My only criticism is that your toast should look more toasty. Right now it's just a slice of bread. Pop that baby in the toaster. ;-)

Once I went with friends to get donuts. I was feeling kind of down, so they thought they'd cheer me up and draw a face on my donut like this: ^____^
Then my friend took a bite out of that donut, and I started crying. I realized I can't eat things that make faces or have faces on them. D: |

stewy and speak_easy: there's a whole set of jokes centered around Polish people being stupid or slow. Think blonde jokes or lawyer jokes-- that sort of thing.
I don't know if that's what the designer intended, but it's how I interpreted the upside-down flag. |

Funny! But I don't like the placement... I would rather it be only one or two rows, with the characters smaller but their flags a bit more noticeable.

clever, completely comprehensible by people who don't spend all their time quibbling over design details on threadless, though placement, as onion said, could use some work. i always wondered what the fuck "continental breakfast" meant anyway.

(plus its really not a breakfast food) - i guess i could change it to italian sausage and give him some gold chains and a hairy chest? haha, then i would need green for the flag i think...

haha some of the comments in this blog are hilarious. Nice work Tom, but I do think you've severly suffered from the 4 colour restriction. It would have also been nice to have more foods+countries. Damn shame.

one of the first things i noticed was the sausage holding his flag upside down. i laughed out loud. and i'm polish. people just have to learn to laugh at themselves i guess.as for making the bacon of canadian heritage(?) and the muffin of english heritage look more like "canadian bacon" and an "english muffin" i'm not too sure those would be as easily recognized.so, the long and short of it is, i like it. $5

Europe, as a whole, is very pro-nationalism. That being said, no matter how stupid the Pole, I think they would sport the flag properly. Especially since having the red portion on top and the white on the bottom represents anther country. The country of Indonesia, to be exact.

I like it a lot. Yeah, my first thought was "that's not an english muffin" but I got over it rather quickly. The flags complete the jokes, and that's enough for me. I love the little details too, tea, viking helmet, hockey stick, baguettes, beer. I am Belgian though, and part of me wants a square waffle. Regardless, I still love the shirt. Looks better on blue, by the way (too much red in the flags).

I love how you've done this, but I think there are too many characters, so it becomes more of a looking-hard-at-it instead of getting-it-instantly thing. How about just picking the 3 most obvious ones and have them only, with slightly bigger flags? Or, you could split into two groups, one for blue shirt one for red... still giving it a 4 though :)

hey there is a difference between nationalism and misunderstanding. What i see now is a Monaco flag and not a Polish flag when you turn the US flag upside down it won't make a change as it is recognisable but the Polish flag is just one way the other makes it a Monaco :D and people i don't consider myself as stupid and i am Polish, wearing berets and having moustaches is far better then being portrayed as a dork. and comments like "Poland is always getting conquered" shows only that ignorance is a bliss. The design is very cool but i would drop the stereotypes...
