make it look more like a cloud by adding the rain drops on the ground or something. That way peopple will know it's a cloud and it's raining. Some people might not be able to tell otherwise.

I did a design like this for a web layout once. I didn't mean for it to look like clouds but it was the same concept. Kinda interesting

since when did juxtaposition become a bad thing? it's a mechanical cloud, it's not even that out there in comparison to a lot of other science of sleep things...or the juxtaposition found throughout in the movie itself.

it's about DREAMS...who is to say this isn't subconsciously plausible?

I really like this idea but I would have liked to see it done a bit differently... would you mind if I sub the same concept in my own style if I give you credit (and hypothetically, prize $$)? Also, someone elses take on it here.

RAIN? looks like the Cryptkeepers hair. You can do better with drops or intersperse with the hair. haha. puddle it at the bottom perhaps? CLOUD? It's not much of one. Didn't even realize it. Even with the rain, I lost the effect of it being a cloud. More details in those mechanics with a water pump, etc. might actually make this a WINNER. Detail the inside of that cloud and then do a cutout approach. A peelback. Whatever. Just make it look like a CLOUD and let us peer inside... ya know? Do that and you have a WINNER.

it looks....drippy...a soggy wet sponge maybe? i like anything to do with rain though. Awesome concept, maybe could be excecuted better. Make the gears not black, all in grey tones. I think your actual rain is fine, it doesnt have to be interspersed. The black chains are distracting as well, they wouldnt be if they were in a grey. I'm sad so many people are put off by this because I like the idea a lot.
