is that Aaron Burr?

Sic Semper Tyrranus translates to “thus always to tyrants”. That is a good rendition of John Wilkes Booth but not sure who the other man on the shirt would be. Aaron Burr?

given that JWB shouted 'Sic semper tyrannis!' when he shot Lincoln...

...what's Aaron Burr doing on this shirt? ;)

Aaron Burr and John Wilkes Booth both shot radical nationalists/federalists Alexander Hamilton and Abraham Lincoln respectively.

radical nationalist and Lincon.. quite a stretch and an odd revision of american history. Not that far off on Hamilton but.. ok.

Instead of having Aaron Burr on the shirt put George W Bush on it.

Vlad, read some Thomas Dilorenzo. These those two are like two peas in a pod. They shared a mercantilist agenda.

Lincoln is a beloved national figure, certainly one of the top result achieving US Presidents. His premature death denied the reconstruction his leadership and was a great loss. Why put sniviling Booth on a shirt?

   spires on Oct 14 '06
That so many think Lincoln was a hero, is a testament to the evil of state education.

An assassin and a duelist are two very different things, and I don't really think Burr belongs in a picture with Booth especially since Hamilton was Sec. of Treasury and not exactly a tyrant.

yyyeah, i'm not sure why someone would want to support murdering people based on their political beliefs. it's hard to legitimately claim an elected official is a tyrant.

HAHA. By that logic, Hitler wasn't a tyrant. Hitler also found big inspiration in Lincoln. Karl Marx was a Lincoln fan.

Tyrants do these things:

imprison dissenters, shut down newspapers, invade foreign countries, centralize power, make it illegal to disagree with the federal government, suspend habeus corpus, engage in protectionist economic policy, destroy the constitution, jail supreme court justices, torture opponents, the list goes on

I'm not sure any other politician could have kept the US together in 1861 nor what the world would have faced w/o an intact North American "arsenal of democracy" in the following century. He was far from perfect in his actions, making plenty of mistakes and misjudgements. At the very least, whether you approve of Lincoln or not, his assassination made him an enduring national icon and martyr, much like what happened w/ JFK in 1964. That pistol shot did not help the CSA and it made the following Reconstruction period a rockier ride that it had to be.

this made me squeal like a b*tch

omigod omigod! yeah? and i am one.

This is too cool. it's not a shirt for racists, it's a shirt for assassins. assassins kick ass by nature (not that i advocate violence...)

"sic semper tyrannis" doesn't ACTUALLY mean "Death to tyrants", just so you know.
spires
   spires on Oct 17 '06
'Thus ever be to tyrants', which is what it says above. Death is the hopeful implication.

I like the design, I like that it makes people think. I don't know about the politics of it, mostly because I care more about the politics of the present.

I don't think the faces are recognizable enough for a shirt. American history buffs would get it but thats a limited market.
