We don't really use the word microcosm enough... thus this design. OK, honestly, I haven't read Lord of the Flies yet, but I was suposed to many years ago and this image has been dancing around in my head for a little while.

Okay it kind of angers me that you submitted this and openly stated that you hadn't read the book...but that's just the English major snob in me. This is a cute design...my only suggestion would be a wilder, more savage font.

you made a shirt about a novel you haven't read? thats ballsy...in the bad way. You should read the book, because it's widely accepted as a good book to read...and then you should redo the design because, as far as I'm concerned, your design in no way captures the moods and sentiments Golding's novel.

Ok, so I really don't like being forced to do stuff, thus in english class I unfortunately did not read this book to proove some stupid point. But now that I'm at my leisure, its next up on my "to read" list right after I finish Dante's "The Inferno." Anywho, good call on the font change. Thanks for the comments.

I love the reference, but the small, limited, framed image leaves much to be desired.

I almost took a wrapped up newspaper to the computer before I realized that the fly wasn't real.

Heh. English ruined a lot of good books for me, too. Books I would have read had they not been assigned. On the flip side, it introduced me to SparkNotes.

Hmmm... think theres a reason that they assigned you the book to read? Perhaps because it's good? Typically, teachers don't just assign you things to be a dick, but rather so that you can learn. School doesn't ruin good books, they expose you to them. Why do you think it is worth reading now? Because you've heard it's good from everyone else who read it in class?

Rant aside, I do love the idea/concept, but I think it might be better suited with a different execution. I'd like to see it without text and the arch. It seems it adds too much of a cartoony quality to it. I love your illustration of the pig/glasses as well.

I don't actually think that school ruins good books at all, but they do on occation assign really bad ones (Great Expectations for instance, which I read in its enterity). I can't remember why I didn't read LotF then, probably had something to do with a choice between a miriad of other things going on and the constraints of time. There is something to be said for the experience of enjoying a book and not rushing through it. Years later the imagery of this story stuck in my head and this design was the first step towards me enjoying reading it when I got through my current read.
