About my design

by imurray
This comes from a feeling that I have, that some might share: you're just a robot. You're just a human shell. Perhaps I'm being depressing, but in every life, a few cogs must fall.

I think I would like it better without the door. Awesome idea though.

I thought your comment was interesting, and it got me thinking.

"Why would I put a door there?"

And the answer came back to me, unadorned and plain: "Because it gives the sense of depth, and it gives the illusion that you really opened a door on the person that gave way to their insides."

I'm just not sure it would be the same without it.

But to each his own. Either way, thanks for the comment!

Since you mentioned cogs falling, why not make the gears look worn out or have some screws loose on the door or something?

"in every life, a few cogs must fall."

By that, it was a play on the phrase "In every life, a little rain must fall."

But I suppose I could take another look at it, make it look a little more worn, if the need is expressed.

I like the door, just makes it feel a little more serious atleast to me

good concept, but i think it would work better if the gears inside had more detail/were more complex

maybe take out the door, but add some proportion and depth to the entrane itself..also cogs looking worn and falling or springing out of the opening to add depth would help too.

yeah i agree more detail in the gears, i feel like it is not finished. i don't know call me crazy

imurray on Sep 27 '06
Nah, I won't call any of you crazy. I just happened to see it differently in my head. And if it had been done any differently, then it wouldn't be mine.

So goes the law of perspectives.

simple. simply amazing. i think even though it lacks all the artsy bits and pieces you would like to see...its much more important that the artist sees what he wants to see. and that makes me appreciate it alot more.

It's good to hear such a comment!

I've talked to a few people that have been submitting for awhile before I submitted mine, and they all seemed to agree that when it came to submissions, they didn't fully bring their vision to realization. I know this isn't speaking for everyone, but it saddened me a little bit to hear that they had to sacrifice their artistic vision just so they'd get a better score.

Getting printed is nice and all...but...shouldn't it be more about the designs? Shouldn't it be more about all of us growing as artists, instead of growing as capitalists?

I really like this shirt. And I find it interesting that you should have designed this one, since you did the mingus dew shirt (which I LOVE!) as well... because before I read any of the comments, I was thinking of the episode of sealab ("I, Robot)where we find out that Dr. Quinn is actually a cyborg. I would definitely wear this.

I was sorry to hear the Mingus Dew shirt did not survive.

I'm not sure why, but I think enough people just didn't get it.

Without the door its just a square with gears inside of it, theres no concept there.
