Oh... oh that makes my heart hurt. Love. Definitely the lower corner, and vote for the olive, or some other muted sort of color - anything too stark will wash away the subtle range of shading. That's such a 5, I'd make it a 5$ but I dunno if I could wear it without crying.

I like the maroon and lower placement. I agree on adding some tree texture, and since theres only 2 colours, maybe make the birds a different colour? I'm not really sure on that last part.
