instead of "before and after" text, why don't you try arrows in between to signify the transition? + and = wouldn't really be the same thing, plus i think its overdone.

I definitely lose 'before and after'!!!
Your ideas area all great, I love "+..=" and arrows too.

The before and after doesn't bother me, but I would loose the little letters.
