you should have one of the arrows pointing down to a manhole. but smooth it up. you should make all the arrows have a different color than everything else to make them more sharp. what are those short yellow poles on the sidewalk?

i really like it, the only problem for me is the arrows, they seem a bit sloppy, not fitting in correctly. also, you want to add more of them in more places, pointing in more directions to truly add the sens eof confusion.

Big deal. Tracing a photo and adding a few arrows. Not creative at all.

jwalsh on Aug 26 '06 For the better part of a century many people in the art community did not consider photography to be an art because it was just capturing a moment and not a creation of the artist. Not only did I take the photogragh, I created an artistic interpretation of it and adapted it to fit my concept for this piece. A great deal of painting, illustation, sculpture and other art is done working from photography. That doesn't make it any less creative. An artist develops a concept and brings it to fruition. Arguing that this is not artistic or creative is moot. It is an original creation of mine. You don't have to like it, but don't tell me it's not creative.

Photography is taking a picture of architecture that someone else built. You did not create the architecture. In order to be creative, you need to create it.
If you insist on not allowing me to say that it is not creative, then I'll say, "It's creative. Good job. I hope it gets printed." Happy now? |

jwalsh on Aug 27 '06 I did create this. What you said makes no sense. So the many paintings and photographs of buildings do not count as creative because the painter didn't manually create the building? Even the architect himself doesn't CREATE the buildings, he makes sketches and drawings in which builders create from. A lot of art is the idea behind the piece and not just how it is created.
I could have easily made a painting of this, it's not that I don't have that ability to paint, but I choose to make a line drawing of it because it fit my concept and also because of the limitations of what it's for: A four color tee shirt design. I also love the crisp clean look of line drawings and have been interested in line art for a while. There is no need to discuss this further, we obviously just have different views of what makes something art. |
