There seems to me to be a fundamental flaw in the math behind our current foreign policy.

and by the way, before someone beats me to it, yes this is an extreme simplification of reality (terrorist density is nonuniform, not all negatively affected people become terrorists, etc)

Still a valid argument though in my opinion

I wouldn't have a problem with that.

the y coordinate of the graph is not labeled, making it meaningless

hardly meaningless, as long as the two variables are plotted on the same linear, you can still tell the ratio from the relative amplitudes, even if the exact amplitudes are not shown. and again, yes you can certainly pick this apart if you want to, when is that not the case for a mathematical model of a real process?

I wish the graph didn't have a white background. Great idea, though. 3/5

Way too utilitarianist, philosophically speaking.

Love it. The only thing I would suggest is making the last sentence a liiitle bit bigger so people don't think they have to read the entire thing.

Anyway. $5.

for some reasons it's bugging me that the world population line on the graph is negative.

otherwise I absolutely love this.

you, mean that it's downsloping?, that's cause it's plotted as a function of bombs

yes..well..i suppose. seems extremely farfetched though. kinda reminds me of the whole global warming thing. and the graph isn't labeled..it could be magnified. it could be many people, it could be only 2. say if it's magnified from a large graph, it wouldn't be a very dramatic fall from the world's population and the terroists. and there are far more people in the world than there are terroists.

RedLoki on Aug 26 '06
well, obviously we are operating on the extreme left side of the graph and aren't really killing enough people to dent the world's population too much, it's just a thought experiment really, taking the policy to its conclusion I guess. It makes sense to me though that if you blew up half the world's population (midpoint on the graph) you'd probably have the vast majority of what's left want to terrorize you, I know I would

Politics make Threadless great. If there weren't shirts that meant anything on here it would just be another souce of lovely little trinkets that people can look at and say "Hey that's funny" and then laugh and forget about reality, like AE or Hollister or all that crap.

Nice... but would I want this on a tee shirt? The design part of it just isn't that great.
anaeromyxo
anaeromyxo on Aug 28 '06
It concerns me that at some number, n=x, on your graph, all the people are terrorists but you say at the bottom left that this occurs at infinity...I guess it's just the lines being so thick...
Tonteau
   Tonteau on Aug 28 '06
I've been thinking for a long time that threadless needs far more graph-based designs. This is a bit complicated for my simple brain, but kudos for doing something different. 4.
