About my design

just an idea that came about from thinking about all the divides/rifts that have been getting worse within our country in the last couple of years. hope it\'s not corny.
Also what are your opinions on the inclusion of the text?

I would like it without the "heal the divide" on top. I didn't think there was much animosity between the states, except for that whole Mason-Dixon thing.

Nice design. Maybe the letters within the states.

Wouldn't it be f##ked up if the stitching was red?

red stitching would make me cry.

California and Florida should be hanging off.

Orange thread would co-ordinate better. Or, darken the states.

has no one else noticed the oversight of alaska and hawaii. talk about "heal the divide!" i say thread the both of them to the side of the mainland U.S. and what was serious gets a humorous twist. maybe have HI hanging by one thread a few inches away

i don't know why people get so mad when people say this...sometimes it's just true

i think your illustration is really great and it just doesn't need the text

might be cool if it was more ssewn in text like with a needle or something

anyway i like it

I like it. I'd like the t shirt if it was blue (like water) and the land was green... the stitching would have some more contrast to show up against then.

i like the design for the most part. the font isn't really to my liking though. Maybe do the words in cross-stitching across ath bottom? and i agree with dyecaster, alaska and hawaii need to be included somehow.

ElizaBee
ElizaBee on Jul 27 '06
I still don't get it. Are you talking about red vs. blue states? I didn't think they were enemies because of their opposing viewpoints... If I wore that shirt ppl would ask me what it meant and I wouldn't be able to tell them. However, without the text it is left more to the viewer's interpretation but overall would still mean unity.

papersky on Jul 27 '06
I'm thinking adding Alaska and Hawaii would be a prime idea as well. Poor Alaska and Hawaii, they are always overlooked...
I agree with you dyecaster, why aren't people noticing this?

Anyway, I'm extremely cynical as well, and I don't find this corny. The colors could use a little work though since they seem too light on the white shirt.
And on a side note, Bush didn't start any divide between the states. It goes way back people...

Not a fan of the text and i'd like to see it a lot bigger on the shirt. even if it has to wrap around it or something. putting things right in the middle ain't the greatest.

Also, white shirts tend not to win.

Have some long strings wrap around to the back
where Alaska and Hawaii would be included.

I would like to suggest you remove the text
since the image would make it look like all
the states have problems with their neighbor
states - and I don't think that's what you were
going for (maybe I'm wrong). If you colored
the states red and blue to represent Democat
versus Republican then the text would make
sense.
ryeofcali
   ryeofcali on Jul 27 '06
i like that suggestion about stringing hawaii and alaska on the back Helo! and i am thinking that the text isn't necessary since it is making everyone pigeon hole it on red vs. blue (which is merely only one division of many that exists in this country).

And the go to below link to see different colors, and also the color displayed above is not white.

this is so appealing. i love it. i'm for no-text.. but it doesn't bother me enough that i wouldn't buy the shirt. in fact - i think you should make it the same style as the thread.. awesome!

So, if all the states are blue, are they all republican or all democrat? (I forget which was blue and which was red last election.) Maybe the idea of green states on a blue background would sidestep that issue. I really like the stitching graphic.

LOVE IT! Btw, I'll stand by the text. The message would be lost without it and that doesn't mean this is a bad design it's just that this is a heavy theme and it's very difficult to get it across on a shirt with no text. Without it, I don't think I would know you're commenting on a divide. I might just be like, "Oh, America's a big quilt... that's... boring. What's that, like the 'melting pot' thing?"

But I love the Hawaii/Alaska idea.

And I also think that red-stitching (only if the text is still there) would be awesome-- a bit kitschy, maybe, but I think there's already a hipness about the shirt so a little kitschiness wouldn't kill it. Plus, kitsch/vintage is kinda cool.

K just some thoughts, but even as is 5$

I don't really agree to add Alaska and Hawaii. They aren't near the US geographically, and this isn't neccesarily a politically correct map.

No Heal the Divide at the top

Like the colours, the design, and agree with the message. Don't change this much please :)
Fwuzzle
Fwuzzle on Jul 30 '06
Blue=Democratic, but it's a darker blue typically.

I don't think it's about party division either.

Also, no red stiching. Or letters in the states. The green isn't politically affiliated with much, and if you don't know the states of the US without letters, you won't get the message.

Andy Mason
Andy Mason on Jul 31 '06
it would be cool if you had alaska and hawaii all dangling way down at the bottom of the shirt, like hanging all seperate

i think it would have alot more meaning if it was the whole world. there's alot more conflict needed to be healed.

or even just the middle east... you might need some stronger thread though
panda kid
panda kid on Jul 31 '06
text needs to be gone, it's not that I have an issue with text in general, i just think the text would make people assume the shirt is saying all the states have strong issues with eachother. i like it because i think its saying, we may be different states yet were the same country and we should stand by eachother. and the inclusion of hawaii and alaska would better it.

but..

if this was the entire world, and the different countries were stitched together, I would love it so much more. because I would love to see the end of the borders and for us to all live as one human body instead of having different nationalities. and the stitch would show that we are one body put together instead of different bodies that are just geographically together.

thanks again everyone for your comments! a lot of people want a stitched together world map, in my head it is sweet, but damn!, it would take a looooonnnnngggg time to sew up the world-literally:(

on a side note, just want to clarify, i am not commenting on literal rifts between, say, delaware and iowa, because there aren't any. the map just symbolizes the usa. There is a red state blue state division-granted, but also there was a lot of division between white and black, haves and have nots in the aftermath of Katrina that i was thinking about, which i also wanted to be addressed by this design.

Ok, I love your design and I think you are a great artist...but I still don't see any type of divide in the US. I have friends in all races, social status, sexes, political parties and many different states. One of the reasons why the US is so great is because we are NOT divided, and that we can overcome anything.

I don't know, to me it seems a bit anti-American because it isn't spreading the truth. I wonder if any of our soldiers would where something like this....the answer is no.

Your t-shirt says "Heal" which means there is something wrong with the US.

Someone who would create a t-shirt design based on a disgruntled opinion of the US can be viewed as a person who created an anti-American t-shirt. It's not rocket science.

Now if you were to lose the text, it would imply that the states of the US are stitched firmly together, which would be a pro-American message. I think we would nearly all agree that this would be better.

Please don't take this offensively, I'm just giving you the other meaning of what this text could portray. Like I said before, I like your design.

The majority of us are American here.

And well, there are certainly large differences at least in the different politics practiced between the states.

Moreso, she is displaying a positive message about unity of the UNITED states. It's not Un-american to suggest we aren't divided as a nation. It's realistic.

Freakin'...."the united states has no political differences or problems in the government!"
