tesco's Highlight breaks all the convention of t-shirt design here on the site without breaking a sweat. the detail is fascinating: the # sign leans a little to the right, breaking up our tendency to favor the justified margin on the left against the ragged margin on the right. color is used well here to provide a readerly ebb and flow that we'd normally expect in a letter like this. having abandonned text, tesco makes a good decision to mimic a personal letter form exactly: especially with the pink text, we're called to imagine a letter written from one person to another, and from there to imagine a story of our own. and the sizing choice is perfect: smaller, and the design resembles a grease stain; larger, and it intrudes into the armpits. this is a fascinating submission from an oft-printed designer; none is better suited to the "letter" of the ♥ threadless competition.

do you not get the wonderful detail? do you not get how tesco has built a coherent whole out of the detail? do you not get what it means?

as the design is so rich in all these ways, i can only hope that you seek some sort of redemption. if you don't kill yourself, and you choose to reproduce, i hope that someday you pursue a spiritual path. wisdom can counteract bad genes (which you obviously have!)

It's about time for someone to post a completely wihte t-shirt w/o design and get all these "avant garde" posters to deem the new wave and everyone will follow these pricks. I agree with lurkingsmirk that this is just the emperor's new clothes. That said, it looks cool and I'd give it a 3.

Right. I really like the design, think it would be a great shirt, but...if this wasn't done by tesco (or another of the threadless glitterati), I've got a feeling people would be slagging it off big time. But, as I was saying 5$.

it took me forever to get it -- i thought it had something to do with cell phones and t-mobile bars, like bloodninja.

then i saw the letter-looking thing. before that i had no idea what the scribbly thing at the bottom was.

i like it. and no offense, i don't really know why - i don't think it's that original. $5, though... because you kept me looking.

OK, sorry, before this gets out of hand:

It's a recreation of an everyday item, using basic shapes in the most efficient way possible.

It's an abstract, graphical interpritation of a letter.

It's a letter with sentances highlighted.

It can mean whatever you want it to mean. To me it makes me think of letters, and the news they bring. Today, snail mail is much less common, and with the obvious exceptance of junk mail, the sort of thing you typicaly recieve in the post will either be good news (college acceptance etc) or bad news (overdue bills etc). With this in mind, it's important to recognise that a simple letter can sometimes have a powerful effect on an individual's emotions, and is therefore a good subject to reinterprate graphicaly.

Another way to look at it is to think of it in the context of todays electronic age. A letter such as this is rapidly becoming a thing of the past,
