I think it's a good commentary on what happened on the news this week when a "real life" Wilbur the pig was saved from the slaughterhouse for some reason, and everyone goes "awwwww cute pig!" and doesn't give a fig about his friends being ground up for lunch. This is the adult reality to the childhood story.
