text doesn't always ruin t-shirts... that's a stupid thing to say. Unfortunately, on this t-shirt, so is "mermaid"... because it's obvious that the image depicts a mermaid. Otherwise.. kudos. you'd get away with removing the text and not editing it any more than that. the colours work well together.

actually I prefer the text on, still. Text and illustration are ment to be of same "feel" and it´s not so important to me that one can tell that it´s a mermaid on it. As for mermen, they can´t be REAL men, can they?

I am a firm believer in not using too much type in a design. Leave something to the imagination. If you are going to put type in the design, make sure to use a typeface that is not hard to read. The Blackletter style you have here may look nice on your computer but when it hits print, the quality may not be what you expected. I would go with a sans serif typeface myself.
