gah. okay. here we go.

"The main reason why I decided to design this t-shirt is because a lot of the designs that I've seen submitted for this competition are random, some are funny, but none of them have a real meaning to speak of (in my opinion, that is).

At first, you might see this shirt and chuckle a little bit, then keep going with whatever you were doing. Some of you might actually look at the shirt and notice there's something wrong, though. The font and what the text says should make the t-shirt funny, since the font is sort of "silly" and "polktronica" sounds absolutely random, since it combines two (completely?) unlike musical genres.

The guy playing the electric accordion, however, doesn't look funny. At all. He looks like he's shut out of the world and is just playing his instrument. While the font and the label next to him (perhaps even the viewer?) are clearly making fun of him, he neither cares nor is ashamed by it. This guy just does what he likes, regardless of wether people will like it or not. If that's the message you got from it, then congratulations to you, for getting the message, and congratulations to myself, for being able to send it. ^_^

Either way, this is the new trend I want for Threadless. Instead of people designing tees that "look cool," I want people to start making designs that mean something, because those are the kind of things you can't buy at a novelty shop."

Or, the shortened version:

The text/font and the drawing are supposed to not go together. If you were about to say "lose the text," then good. But. Just don't actually say it.

lose the text.

and are you going to follow me around if i wear this, to take the 5 minutes to try and explain it to people when they dont get it either?

the design needs to speak for itself, not have 4 paragraphs of text to try and justify its existence.

Joshamman, the explanation is supplementary. If it was essential to the design, I would have added the four paragraphs to the t-shirt. The design does stand on it's own, and in a best-case scenario, people should be able to get the meaning of it. However, a lot people (myself included) like hearing the artist's explanation, wether it is in DVD audio commentary, or some text accompanying a painting at a museum.

sorry MiggyB but it just sounds like a bunch of designer BS to me. If you really want people to think about a design and the meaning behind it, make it good enough for people to sit and look at for more that 2 seconds before blowing it off because it sucks. Sorry to be harsh but not all critiques are all bubblegum and fairies.

Well, I think it's a great idea. I think the design can stand alone, but is pretty awesome with the explanation, too.

All I'd suggest is that you make the accordian player stand out more; it was hard for me to see at first.

But, still. $5

alright. miggyB...

first. to preface this comment im going to say, straight up, i dont like your design, i dont like the style, i think its poorly done and disproportional. that aside.

there are, contrary to your beliefs, loads of shirts on here with wicked good messages. AND...heres the shocker. they have feeling along with excellent artwork.

ill give you 5$ for the novel you wrote and maybe a beej?

as for the design, i might toss some spare change into mr.electro-cordians tin can.

kthxbye

This shirt is possibly the best shirt on this shitty site. I can't believe someone made a site like this. You have to have thread to make a shirt. it can't be threadless. Ihope the creators read this and turn into a pilliar of slat. Miggys shirt kicks ass.
