make it "church" and "science/truth" and now you're talking!

Separation of Church and State is great. But it isn't intended to mean what everyone seems to think. It was established to keep the government from telling you what you are allowed to believe about God (as was the case in England), not to keep belief in God out of the government.

And to skipcronin, belief in the truth of science and belief in the Christian God are not mutually exclusive. I'm a Christian. I don't believe God would create the universe in 6 days and then make it look like it's billions of years old. My God isn't a trickster.

Anyway, I think this is an okay design, but I'd be surprised if it ever got printed. It mixes the taboo conversation topics of religion and politics into one T-shirt.

SuperPope...thank you! You are correct! It is amazing that things get so twisted :[

ok, I was a little freaked out at first, because my store is literally at the intersection of Church and State Sts. I was like, "HOW DO THEY KNOW?!"

then I looked at the rest of the design. meh.

wether or not anyone is correct here, please take the religious soapbox to your blog and just comment on the design.

as for the terminology, though, super is right, the shirt would further propogate the misconception of one of the united states' founding concepts. which would make the wearer look ignorant or stupid.

Yeah, apparently, there is an actual intersection in Bristol with those signs. :) I didn't know that, being American but cool coincidence?

Anyhow, I suppose you could interpret this design in many ways. It's not intended to really advocate a specific political or religious message. Here's what I have, but I'm not necessarily preaching or anything: The ideologies of the Church and the ideologies of the State can be contradictory and misleading. On the other hand, (referring to the American system now...) the government wants you to think that separation of church and state exists, but there are just so many policies and structures influenced by religion (refusal to grant homosexual marriage, strong opposition facing abortion, stem cells, the Pledge of Allegiance, etc. that are rooted in religious beliefs) ingrained in how politics work that people don't know what to think anymore. Hence... confusion.

I hope this um helps?

How about a little stick figure instead of green wormy dude? That way the focus is on the signs. And SuperPope, you are right, but the fact is that many politicians want to put THEIR God in government to the exclusion of others. It's a slippery slope, and better to be careful. Like Thomas Jefferson said, "I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it".

i like it. the cartoonish design makes it ok i think. it's not really making a stand one way or the other. just makes you think. that's great.

i like it... i like shirts that make you think without having to read a lot. i think it would do well on either green (though if you did green, i'd change the text to white), black, white, red, or navy.

Separation of Church / State isn't a government policy. It's just something Jefferson mentioned in a letter one time.
