Hm. I don't know where my original comment went, but it went something like this :

New trend! Actual hand-drawn art that isn't intentionally childish and awkward!

just a general question, how is somethign submitted in vector form if it is hand drawn, is there some sort of program you convert it with, or do you just draw it sacan it, then vector it?

If somone would reply that be great
ResonantFish
   ResonantFish on Jun 23 '06
It doesn't NEED to be vectorized for submission if the scan is in super-high resolution. And from what I understand, if you need to vectorize it, you can run it through some kinda filter.

hope it would be able to pick up all the detail, or it wouldn't be worth it.

Always wonderful to break with standards and accepted aesthetics.

Strangely enough, I actually want the text on there, but below the image and in a different font.

i like the hand-drawn, sketchy look

and i realize (with the tentacle legs) that this isn't about realism, but -

the anatomy of the deer is way off and it really bugs me

i think you got mixed up thinking the ankle is the knee - and you ended up with limbs missing the upper bone that attaches them to the body at the scapula and pelvis

to see what i mean, check here -

http://www.kerrlake.com/deer/deer2.jpg

it's not just anatomical correctness - the ribs/verts are off - but they still connect in a functional manner - it's the fact that the limbs aren't "functional" as limbs right now that drives me nuts

5$ if that gets fixed

you get a 5 for now

   kaloyster on Jun 23 '06
I agree with Resonant. hand-drawn subs can be done in Photoshop without the need of vector programs (for it will lose the sketchy feel of it)
ResonantFish
   ResonantFish on Jun 23 '06
Rudra - it's not biologically perfect. That's kinda the point. I took a reference and tweaked it.

AND it's not a deer. It's an ... other thing. But more than that, it's an icon.

Rudra was saying that the anatomy was off on the animal... but perhaps the guy isn't finished building the creature yet and has left a few bones out for now. =)

Anyway, this is a really weird design... but very original. Great craftsmanship and attention to detail, too.

yeah, i know it's not supposed to be totally biologically accurate (tweaked and assembled bits and pieces) - and it's more like that mythological himalayan one-horned antelope like thing than a deer - but back to the point

the legs as they are don't connect to actual joints, and wouldn't support the mass of the body, or allow a sufficient range of motion - they couldn't FUNCTION - it's all about Structure and Function

(yes, i'm a nerd - i also study osteology)

and that lack of functionality is impinging on my willing suspension of disbelief that the old tentacle-legged man is carving out/working on building/(whatever it is he's doing) an animate/live skeletal creature

i want to think that that animal can leap up and run wild - as it is i think it shouldn't even be able to stand, the poor thing would crumple onto the floor without that man holding it up

and that makes me very sad - because i really really like the idea, and execution, with that one exception

Great job! I absolutely love submissions with concepts that involve anatomy (both animal and human) ^_^ $5
slurmtastic
slurmtastic on Jun 27 '06
Yet the anatomy of a tentacle man doesn't bother you at all, rudra? Why, I'm not sure that those things would allow the man to walk. I like the art a lot, 5.

the skeleton concept is getting old. im pretty sure half the time there is no concept, just people throwing skeletons everywhere and making people think it has some deep involved meaning to it
ResonantFish
   ResonantFish on Jun 27 '06
Skeletons are TOTALLY old. In fact, they were so cliche that I got rid of my own skeleton and replaced it with popsicle sticks so I could be HIPPER. That'll show biology to be such a LAMER! OMGZ!
kidderliverpool
kidderliverpool on Jun 28 '06
Ah, it's art..it doesn't matter if it's not strictly biologically correct...there's a bloke with tentacles for legs for gawdsake.

It's just a really different/bizarre/amazing drawing. Would buy it!
