He tried to post comments with the shirt designer comments, but to my knowledge those don't show up. I guess we have to wait until he makes a comment here.

i predict you color in some of the dots with a red marker to make your own t-shirt. lite brite-esque.

Threadless has a bug that has been removing the
designer's opening comment when presenting
submissions to be scored. So this design is really
suffering due to that bug.

I think that tha man (or lady) wanted to say that you can cover the white spots with za marker and compose your own image.

i like the idea of being able to fill in the dots or whatever...but does it come with a marker?
mlawton
mlawton on Jun 29 '06
ahhh...the possibilities certainly must be endless. personally wouldn't buy it since i'm one of the crappiest visual artists ever to grace the planet. my stick figures make margaret thatcher look hot.

also, would the marker be supplied with the shirt? will it blend in with the color of the shirt or be a contrasting color? beuller?
SuperPope
SuperPope on Jun 29 '06
I think that I wanted to say that all of these submissions trying to "push the envelope" by asking you to fill in blanks on your own shirt are C H E E S Y with a capital CHEE.

If I want to draw on a T-shirt I don't first need to pay Threadless $15. I can buy a Beefy-T and a marker at Wal*Mart and make something just as ugly on my own.
nadeau_david
nadeau_david on Jun 29 '06
If I had all the time in the world, I still wouldn't have time to fill in the dots on a shirt...

i think this design is suffering from a lack of any kind of skill, not a lack of comment.

i would not even think about paying $15 on a shirt like this. Submit this to a craft store instead.

BusCaptain

Of Course... The one time I try somethong a little different, my comments don't show up!!!

Here's What you were supposed to be able to read before scoring:

This is an idea I've had for a long time, but never submitted it, because it obviously lacks in the design category. However, the guidelines of this new Loves competition seemed to fit an idea like this to a "tee" (wink wink) Initially, I thought the marker would come with the tee, but that's entirely up to threadless. Then I realized that you could use multiple coloers if you'd like, or even washable markers. (that way you could redesign every time you wash it!) Anyway, i thought it was a unique idea, and I figured it would make for a really cool gallery of photos. (it'd be cool to see what different people did with this) Anyway, just a different idea. Be gentle.

Hope ya dig.

BusCaptain
BusCaptain on Jun 29 '06
As far as everyone's mean-spirited insults, please keep them to yourself. Like I said, I was trying something completely different. (which is what's stated in the Loves guidelines as the WHOLE POINT of this competition) Those of you who are being constructive, thanks for your comments.

it's great you are taking on the challenge to trying something new, but personally I think do-it-yourself shirts do not sell well to the particular crowd that comes to threadless ---- great idea for kids though, I think.

We have an explanation now? Okay, cool. Yeah like I said earlier, I don't think this is for me. It is, however quite original and I can see some people that would invest in it, 5.

Liked the idea with the marker (which of course was obvious right away without your comment)

When you then explained that the marker could be washable I loved it.

You say you're "trying to do something completely different" but quite a few submissions are asking the buyer to draw on them. So it's really not different at all. Nice try, though.
BusCaptain
BusCaptain on Jul 02 '06
Here's why I think my design is a bit different from similar entries:

I've somewhat limited the designer's options. The field of dots is all you have to work with, so you have to really think about what image you're trying to create, and how to create it. It's not just a blank shirt wih a "Hi, my name is:" on it.

So yes, I realize that this is not "Something completely different". But relative to the other stuff I'VE submitted, it certainly is.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Keep 'em comin'.

Hmm kinda innovative, but not that great for those lacking artistic abilities. That and.. I have no idea what I would draw on there, so the thing with most shirts is I like them because there's something cool already on it, and having to figure out what to put on a shirt seems a bit of a tedious conundrum

soo its just a plain shirt that might come w/ a marker? i think people can just do that on their own. maybe add a little something of your own, like a connect the dots or random lines that people can use in a drawing of their own. :)

Think alot of people r bein pretty harsh, i think it's cool, it's not like drawin on a plain tee that'd look dodg at least with the dots u've got some structure.

oh yeah, an i think havin the dots a little further apart(bigger too) would create a better effect

I like the whole "dot" idea, very unique...But I gotta agree with some of the others in that this isn't much different than just any blank t-shirt & a washable marker. Points for effort, though.
