Love it. But please lose the line border, it does not strengthen the artwork at all and I love the organic nature of the black smoke. You could close those color areas off by continuing the shape of the black smoke but make it the same color of the shirt.... do you see what I'm suggesting?
I would also like to see this much larger on the shirt and not on Natural colored shirt. Still a 5. |

I am amused by the fact that, although I've been making robots as long as (maybe longer than) Jeff Soto, he got on a magazine cover before me, and that means I'm "borrowing" from him. For the record, I like his work, and he's a cool guy.

I followed that link about Jeff Soto and I DON'T think it looks like his stuff at all. past that it has a robot. and transition. stylistically it's completely different. What's with people?

I don't know if this is the best thing for Threadless Loves Threadless, just because of the robot. Sadly, everyone here seems to think robots are overdone, and this contest is all about being completely fresh...
The style and colours are great, I'm just saying, this might be a better candidate for the general contest rather than Threadless Loves. |

Yeah, what the hell? I looked at that link, too, and I don't get where anyone would think this is "stolen" from Jeff Soto. There is a robot. I think there are clouds in a couple of those Soto images.
And there's the fact that they're a completely different kind of illustration-- if someone cut and pasted pictures of robots and clouds onto a piece of construction paper, I wouldn't accuse them of ripping off Jeff Soto. This is a cool illustration that has a robot in it. Why aren't the other two dozen robot submissions a week being accused of plagiarism? I think this looks great, $5. |

This is excellent, but the Banana has a good suggestion about the border. I especially like the laurel wreath on the robot's head -- nice touch.
As for the comments about this being a rip-off of Jeff Soto, it just shows the limited frames of reference of those making the comments. This robot is no more a Soto rip-off than it is stolen from Frank R. Paul or Virgil Finlay, two guys who were illustrating robots before WWII. Unfortunately the 14 year olds around here think anyone who makes a cup of coffee stole the idea from Starbucks (who invented coffee, of course). They're like movie critics who have seen one movie their entire lives -- and it was The Incredibles. Ignore them and keep making art because you've got talent. |

I agree with the no border, and it`s a great image!! It`s hard for people to come up with a completely original idea/style etc. because a lot of it has been done before but I don`t think it`s plagarism if the same subject matter is used. And besides, robots rule!

for the record, i love jeff soto.i have been a fan for a long time. i have a sleeve tattoo of a few of his works. and i have his book he put out. this is nothing like his stuff.
