About my design

I heard if you shoot an arrow with enough strength, it will go all the way around the world and hit you in the back.

kyuuki on Jun 14 '06
you heard wrong, unless the arrow was made of pure light... but then light doesnt bend does it.

iMad on Jun 14 '06
i hope the person you hear that from isn't from phy. maj.

I think it's only true if the person firing the arrow is the size of north america.

monkeyfett8
monkeyfett8 on Jun 14 '06
Well actually, if you fired it at around 10 Km/s and managed to not hit anything as well as ignore air resistance, you could complete an orbit, buuuut, in the real world, you would have to shoot it so fast to compensate for air resistance that you would exceed escape velocity, and it pretty much just fly out of the planet's gravitational field.

kyuuki, light does bend

the more common example is the use of a cannon, and yes, theoretically it is possible.

and light bends around black holes or other powerful gravitational anomalies.

I like the concept -- it can be executed better though. I'm hoping for a re-submit when this is improved.

looks like a shirt for earth day.

I don't think that's physically possible, but I will ask my physics professor and get back to you with some answers.
enslen
enslen on Jun 14 '06
Ok, for everyone who says this is not possible, this started out as joke between my friends and I. I didn't bother to confirm whether it was possible or not. It's just supposed to be a funny theoretical situation, like something you would read about in a tall tale or ancient legend or something.

Ok, so how would I go about improving it? I drew the planet to be cheesy, I wasn't going for an exact replica but would it make it better if it was all fancy and accurate?

1. That arrow is the latest in the bush administrations arsenal of intercontinental ballistic missiles.
2. Using nano technology the arrow can hold fuel, electronics, and 18 bunker busting missiles while flying at an astonishingly-shit-your-pants-fast speed of mach 80.
3. Using the latest in air-get-out-of-the-way technology (i.e AGOOTH) it has an air resistance close to zero, therefore the above CLASSIFIED PICTURE is possible.
4. The artist is a terrorist and a spy who has stolen secret military information and posted it here, the alchaida communications board.
5. Were not sure what to do, but we have decided to take out myspace.com in attempt to stop this threat.

I like the idea, but I wouldn't wear it.

lady_macbeth on Jun 15 '06
Why is everyone reading so much into this... are you that concrete that you can't step aside from the fact that the arrow went all the way around the world and see what the shirt is really saying...
Honestly let's hop on the cognitive development train and move on to the next stage.

very cool!

Love the idea! As u more or less mention above, if the globe would look less "scribbly freehand" it would make the design a lot stronger I believe.

This is awesome. It's a little boring, but i really like the idea of what goes around comes around.

I like the concept, but I think the illustration's too plain/stiff. I can't say I know how you could change this... maybe a more artistic use of color rather than the royal blue/forest green earth.

i think this would work a lot more if it had much more detail.

Thanks for all the tips for improvement, I really appreciate it and a big thanks for the people that say they like it. I'll consider a resub depending on what the score is.
BurnMyShadow
BurnMyShadow on Jun 18 '06
i really like this. i think it might be a little faster to comprehend if it had the text "what goes around, comes around" somewhere on it.. but it doesnt really need it. and reshaping some of the continents might make it a bit better. i like reveywilldo's suggestion as well. anyways.. i would wear it. $5

I like the concept!
The illustration needs work.
and the earths land proportions are off.

i have no idea why the first half of people who commented were so freaking anal.

no kidding? no way? it can't do that?! you're lying.

i highly doubt the artist, like they said, was serious about that theory.

i like the shirt, but it needs something a bit spicier..

it is possible at the altitude homeboy's arrow is at
Sarandos
Sarandos on Jun 20 '06
i addition to all the suggestions, you should add unicorns, pandas, lollipops, butterflies, hearts, guns, and bananas to this shirt. You would easily get an average of 5.0, no question.

A serious addition: I think there are too many dashes going around the earth, it seems a bit heavyhanded. Space 'em out a bit more if you can. And don't get too wonky with the earth's colors, it should still be recognizable. Nice concept!

I like the idea, HATE THE COLORS!!! They just remind me of crayola crayons in 3rd grade. I would love to see something else. Great idea though.

Sarandos: ROFLCOPTER! DONE! NEW SUBMISSION COMING SOON! Hmmmm, now that I look at it, yeah, there are quite a bit of lines, thanks for the input.

catdogpigduck: Not if he was a real man because real men shoot arrows around the world so therefore he is a real men and does not need to wear a coat.

And thanks again for the love and the input!
