If Shakespeare were a vegetable...

is it because kids hate shakespeare but it's actually good for you (ie; it makes you smarter)?
Webdreck
Webdreck on Jun 02 '06
Ahh... ironic indeed. My sources tell me that broccoli (boiled (1/2 cup)) has 0.66 mg iron, whereas the same amount of spinach - a less iconic vegetable - has 3.2 mg iron. I like the "ironic" title (like "bionic") but would "irony" have been better?
WhitePepper
WhitePepper on Jun 02 '06
The idea really is to re-define familiar words. though what you said makes sense too!
WhitePepper
WhitePepper on Jun 02 '06
Thanks for your little spinach Vs broccoli facts Webdreck! Glad to see you get the concept! Yeah, I was toying with the title "irony" over "ironic". I liked "irony" as it better described the nutritional properties of broccoli and seemd like more of a real word in this particular context. however, "ironic" seemed less wisy-washy and had more impact, and like you say, would read like "bionic" but without the 'b'.

I love it, I don't care if it makes sense somehow XD The reason I love it is because it doesn't make sense to me XD
robilixious
robilixious on Jun 03 '06
I also prefer irony. True, ironic sounds more impactic, but to those who get it, irony just sounds more correct. I also think of spinach as the ultimate irony vegetable, but this works very well too. I love it.
robilixious
robilixious on Jun 03 '06
Wow I'm out of it. That should say impacting, not impactic.
kaloyster
   kaloyster on Jun 03 '06
Then it should be said like:

"a-yornick"

and not

"ay-ronick"
WhitePepper
WhitePepper on Jun 03 '06
Exactly Kaloyster. It's just a simple shift in the pronunciation of the word. Must admit, after all these comments, I'm favouring "irony" too. It just makes better sense doesn't it? IRONY: To be full of iron.

Is that one of those things that can be changed before printing or would a re-submission be the likely outcome?
Verdana
Verdana on Jun 03 '06
You could make that change, I'm sure.

i'd prefer ironic. It'd be better if the shirt itself were somehow ironic too, but alas it is merely a pun
KrestaKaye
KrestaKaye on Jun 03 '06
I agree that Irony is funnier
WhitePepper
WhitePepper on Jun 04 '06
I did toy with the idea of making the T-shirt ironic, but decided that it would over complicate things, and confuse the concept. After all, the word on the t-shirt has nothing to do with irony as we know it, but about how iron-rich brocolli is. Thanks for your input though - muchly appreciated!

I didn't understand it until I read through the comments... I eat broccoli because it tastes good, I was actually clueless as to it being a decent source of iron... spinach rocks too though...
WhitePepper
WhitePepper on Jun 06 '06
Well now you know Mr. Krieg! Not only is this t-shirt a pun, but it's also educational! Briliant!

That post is written by something so confused, it doesn't know whether to scratch its watch or wind its ass. Clearly, you spend way too much time in darkened rooms in front of your seven-year-old computer turning a whiter shade of pale. Go outside once in a while and breathe, before your brain starts to rot from all that festering stagnation and cognitive dysfunction.

You read like a gimpzoid teenager splashing spit onto the monitor. Don’t you ever have a point beyond giving your fingers some exercise by dancing them randomly over the keyboard? You wouldn't know Up from Down if you had four guesses. Well, you're certainly thoughtless; I just wish that you were keyboard-less, too. I suggest you need Mark Twain's advice; "It is better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt."

What possessed you to think that you were capable of being entertaining or interesting to read? I'd get more pleasure from running my nostrils down a cactus, than reading another contribution from you. Maybe you wouldn't be such a Jerk-In-The-Box if you didn't eat all those paint chips and lead pencils when you were a kid; if your weren't so fat that all the restaurants in town have signs that say: "Maximum Occupancy: 80 Patrons OR You.", or if you didn't have a face so ugly that even your mother didn't know which end to put the diaper on. Who am I kidding? You would.

To sum up: you are about as smart as your rubber bow tie and two left shoes suggest, Bozo. Now, go curl back up in your corner, and continue chewing on your toenails.

okay, that took me embarassing long to get.

i think 'irony' might work better, but i like it anyway. ;)

I still don't see how this relates to Shakespere
WhitePepper
WhitePepper on Jun 08 '06
Ha ha! Thanks for that comment ranal! Made me laugh! The slight link with Shakespeare was that he used irony in his writings. So if Shakespeare were a vegetable, he'd be broccoli! Because they too are ironic! Make sense now? No, me neither....

robilixious on Jun 10 '06
I think you meant Shakespeare used puns. Although he does use irony, the mass of puns in his plays (especially his comedies) is overwhelming. Also, this shirt is a pun.
robilixious
robilixious on Jun 10 '06
One more thing--I'm extremely disappointed that this shirt was not printed.
WhitePepper

Ha well Robilixious, you obviously know more about Shakespeare than me! Thanks for your comments mate!
