America loves bombs and bombing people. The government spends billions on bombs, and we are always trying to invent new ones. All I am saying is more love, less bombs. Thanks America.

All I'm saying is that several people don't want to become a live target for a political debate, that's probably why you don't see many religious or political shirts get printed.

Awesome design though.

I like a good political shirt as much as the next guy, and I'm not a fan of the war in Iraq and I am not a fan of Bush, and I like the MESSAGE of this shirt, but.....come on...

It's a clever design, but I will never care for anti-American bullshit.
Regardless, I'll give it a 3.

love it. simple desgin, well illustrated (especially like the varied shading on the bombs) and gets the point across quickly. it'd be bullshit if it was misrepresentative. unfortunately, it's not.

Not every design has to have a bunch of busy images and shapes,
some usually have random and useless elements.
Simplicity can be a strong quality to any design.

i don't like it. save politics for your blog. there are companies who make shirts specially for people who hate the president and the country they live in. i don't think Threadless is one of them.
nick.dissim
nick.dissim on May 13 '06
This shirt was geared more towards peace. We go to war a lot, so does other countries. Whether it is political or not, we drop bombs and kill people. I don't like that, so I tried to design a shirt that would make people realize how infatuated America is with war. I don't hate this country, I just hate it's history.

Thank you to all the people who like the design. When people appreciate your work, it motivates me to create new and interesting art.

When do we get an Iranian shirt with scuds pointed towards Israel?
Or a North Korean shirt with government prison camps?
Or a Chinese shirt with an ethnic cleansing message?

Street goes more than one direction.
War sucks, but the US isn't the only perp. Show some pride and try to fix the problem instead of perpetuating hate.

Some of you people are idiots. Anti-War is NOT anti-America or hate. If you love your country, you will not cover up its mistakes, you will help it overcome them. We have a responsibility to keep our government in check. Democracy is of the people, and if we pretend there's nothing wrong, then that is when we don't care. Democracy is designed to be slow and unwieldy, its the only thing that keeps it honest. Truman said "an efficient democracy is a dictatorship." If there was nothing wrong, nothing to "hate", then I'd be more worried.

You people accusing him of hate have patriotism confused with nationalism. I think nick.dissim is wearing the stripes with pride on this shirt. I'd give it a 4, but I'll score a 5 to help balance out misguided freedom fighters.

nick.dissim
nick.dissim on May 15 '06
Thanks for all the comments again. I figured this shirt would get a lot of positive and negative responses. But I am glad there is some debate, because perfect tees are boring.

This shirt could be a lot of things.
It could be pro war, anti war, anti America, pro America. The choice is really yours. To me the shirt is geared more to anti war. I don't give a shit about democrats, liberals, republicans, any of that. I just believe what I want and whatever category I fall under, so be it, I don't care much for politics.

Overall I am very pleased with the shirt, and with only 4 days left, I don't think the score will go up much more which is fine because the score is a lot higher than I thought it would ever be. But regardless, I am glad I got some reactions out of people, and I am glad some of you like the shirt.

And Enso Mingus, sorry about the color, maybe I will make a white shirt design with a navy blue square behind the stars, and post it in a blog. I am at school now but I can do it tonight to see if it looks cool with another shirt color.

and how can you say not supporting a war our country in completely involved in....american soldiers are Fighting in....how can you say not supporting that is patriotic?

it's not. Either you're for your country, or you're not.

We're fighting this war for our country also....we're trying to spread democracy just like we've done in Every single war before this one...

and that democracy leads to a more protected america from those countries, which would otherwise be run by dictatorship...and inhumane leaders....

but yeah...guys...let's leave the war now...let's just leave...let's just pull out now...right in the middle of everything...therefore canceling everythign we've already accomplished and make our entire country look terrible and weak...and leave the doors open for them to openly attack us. That's smart. Yep.

It's ok to be against war. But as soon as We enter into one...you should sure as hell keep your mouth shut.
stickyricegirl
stickyricegirl on May 15 '06
but i've got nothing against whoever designed this...you did a good job, I just don't agree with you politically...

nick.dissim
nick.dissim on May 15 '06
That is fine, and I respect your point of view. And you are right. I just don't like the idea of ANY war, especially this Iraq war. Everyone knows we went to war on bad intelligence, even the president admitted it. But at the end of the day we are in war, right or wrong. Whether it was right or wrong to invade a country and bring in democracy is something I will probably never know in my life time.

But I do feel if there is no rebellion and disagreement with the government's actions and choices, more mistakes will happen in the future. We can't sit back and tape our mouths' closed while the government makes wrong decisions. We need to show them we will not follow them in every move they make. So making a t shirt design like this is just another way of saying "Hey you better think twice about that, because it might disagree with the actual American peoples' beliefs."

But in the end we all have opinions. And we put trust into the government to take care of us.
bonedaddy
bonedaddy on May 16 '06
Nick, you sound like an intelligent individual. Your commentary is well taken.

My issue is with the constant hammering of the US and the America we love. It just happened to hit me wrong on this shirt. Whenever something goes wrong in the world (or even when it doesn't) - people throw rocks at the flag and the US. I was merely pointing out it isn't just us (the US). I completely understand what you've tried to accomplish with this - once you explained it in full. Very rational.

But, we always seem to be taking body shots from all around - including our patriotic people. On t-shirts, the media, musicians (what the hell do they know?), actors, etc. No killing is right - all fights for freedom are, even if it's for someone else.
nick.dissim
nick.dissim on May 16 '06
Bonedaddy, I completely understand what you are talking about. With this design I used the all mighty American flag to portray a message that people will think about. I know burning a flag or hanging it upside down or letting it touch the ground is anti American, but I wasn't trying to be anti American. I was using the flag for its recognized power and history to translate a message. This country has a lot of problems and being in war is something we do not need and is something we should evaluate for the future.

We have a war every 50 or so years, and every time we kill innocent people. It just aggravates me. And it defenitally isn't just America with a war history, I just chose America because I live in it and so doesn't a good majority of people on this site.

PS
I like the people on this site because you all have your beliefs and opinions. I am so glad everyone did NOT agree with the shirt.

the complacency on this page is completely appalling. its like oh boo hoo love it or leave it. people need to realize that dissent is patriotic. too many are confusing the people in this country and the country in general with the government. when people question their government, that means they care about this country enough to want change, to want a govenrment that will be beneficial to the country. so to say we are at war and we should all shut up and be alright about it is ludicrous. if the government doesnt realize that we are against this war then they will continue the trend. we are not a world of governments and administrations, we are a world of people, dammit.

It's a good design and I like how sweet and simple it is. However, I disagree with what it says (or what I interpret it as). Flags are supposed to symoblize what a country is about and by changing the image the way you did you are making it seem as though the U.S is about war. I'm sure a few years ago when we weren't at war people wouldn't get your point or would be of fended. But right now you are trying to feed off of the fact that the media is pushing anti-war, anti-Bush propaganda. After all, not even half of all the people who could vote last election did yet they continue to complain as if they had voted. All these political posers are getting annoying.

they dont vote because they are sick of the bullshit "candidates" that are given to them, who are really just rich white men that represent the elite and no one else. also, i dont see any anti war propaganda. just last week, i was watching meet the press and they talked about bush;s low polls for 3 seconds before moving to the comeian impersonator and they talked only about how good a guy bush really was. who the fuck cares if hes a nice guy. thats pro bush media for you. ugh these people.
