About my design
by Royal Sapien
It's all in the spirit of fun.

nice ribbing on the designers, although outside of threadless i dont know how much this would make sense as a shirt.

killerbeez on Apr 25 '06
I really liked this a lot-- kind of like a 4AD album cover from the nineties-- until I saw that it was just the designer being an asshole. Disappointing!

I don't think you're an a-hole, but I definitely don't get it at all.

Do you have a link to the entire image not covered up by the shirt? I wanted to try this out...I think that it would be funny to see...

kc_6201 on Apr 25 '06
Should have added some hearts and cephalopods and what poofie said...
Anyway, this is amusing and still manages to be aesthetically pleasing.

ha, agree 200% with this design, irony is that the layout is pretty bad

um... who puts tons of tiny angular buildings on a shirt?

chudoc324 on Apr 25 '06
Yes! Love it! I find this concept to be brilliant and would love to have it on a shirt.
Well played.

I apologize for not including skulls, guns, hearts, sea life, flowers, etc. I agree that hearts were certainly a major omission, as were cephalopods on Threadless, but I wanted to keep the legend somewhat managable so I narrowed my list.

It sucks that some people think it's mean, but I wouldn't own dozens of Threadless T's if I didn't like the designers that contribute. I own shirts with squids and hearts and stars and birds and, yes, buildings on them.

It's a joke.

The numbers don't seem to convey the pictures they're supposed to very well.

Bwuahahahahaha. This shirt speaks the truth. You chose a difficult concept to execute, and I am not sure if I would want it on a shirt in its present form, +4.
direnerd
direnerd on Apr 26 '06
Plus sign? I don't think I've ever seen that.

Maybe if the pattern stood on it's own, and the legend was more of a surprise. It's funny, but it would be twice as funny if the legend were there but weren't so important.
lucyfarfort
lucyfarfort on Apr 26 '06
I was going to do a submission which tried to incorporate all of the elements most frequently seen on Threadless for a laugh as well, but it was going to be more in your face than this. I opted not to 'cause no one would wear it. I was inspired to do this after submitting a design which i realised later was really overdone (had butterfiles in it basically).

I would like to set up a competition in which designers have to produce an interesing image for a tee using as many over used elements as possible 'cause i think it would be funny.

Anyway i think its amusing.

lucyfarfort, I love that idea! If you ever have the comp, I'd love to submit something. Thanks for the conceptual support.

It's a really cool looking design, but I absolutely don't understand the legend.

It also seems like too much reading.

Good looking shirt, though. Creative idea.

leftoverusername on Apr 26 '06
Yeah, you definitely missed fruit with faces, blood splatters, and suicides. But oh well, it's a clever and puckish sort of shirt. And yes, puckish is a real word.

dang i guess i better trash my new butterfly with vector dripping on a target and a sparkly, twisted vine, balancing atop a building with birds flying overhead design!
Lol j/k
I like it. its clever. To bad now a milion other shirts will come out with the same "anti-design by numbers" theme which will then defeat the whole purpose of this original idea. sucks huh?

I love it and I don't even care if my friends would understand it or not. $5, although someone in a previous comment mentioned that you don't typically see shirts with tons of tiny, angular buildings, and that's pretty true, but a minor detail anyway.

4qu4 on Apr 29 '06
because it's so true, it works for me. i'd buy it.
Royal Sapien
Royal Sapien on Apr 29 '06
Thanks for all the support! I'm chuffed the concept is being received so well. It's very encouraging.

(aside: the perceived multitude of tiny angular buildings is actually meant to represent two buildings jutting in from the sides with their edges made of numbers. i now see i could have made that more clear somehow, but just wanted to explain since the forum is provided.)

Oh man, thank you so much for this. Probably not good shirt material but I'm so glad someone else is as bored with the same old crap threadless gets every day as I am.
