Volunteers make a difference. Here is a "band" of young volunteers, possibly at a hospital or an old-age home, but basically they have come together to play music for all that want to hear them.

not for the red cross! if this wasn't for the red cross it would be a $5...actually it's still a $5 because it kicks ass...but i'd resubmit this on its own.

But wow, it so doesn't communicate anything about the competition. It's too abstract in it's connection, even if it is legitimately inspired by it.

If you feel this does not relate to the Red Cross, this is what they posted through the Threadless staff:

"While we do love hearts, blood and hands, it's definitely not a requirement. We're not excluding any images/ideas if a case can be made for illustrating hope, humanity or compassion. Also, a design could be easily focused on one of the three elements (hope, humanity or compassion), not necessarily on all three."

I have illustrated a group of volunteers, individuals & musicians who have come together through compassion for others while they lay in a hospital bed, old-age home, etc... to play music for them while they heal. However, whether their music is any good or will benefit the healing process is yet to be determined ;-)

There's already a band called "The Band"... but, you know, they're not on a t-shirt. So I guess it's kind of too bad for them. There's probably a band called pretty much anything you can think of... that sentence was not very coherent. But... nice shirt.

i love the idea, and i love that it subtly fits the requirements for the competition. people need to broaden their horizons beyond the blindingly obvious.

Now...yes, I agree with others that I don't get the connection with the red cross. You say they are a band of volunteers that play hospitals...but there's nothing to really show that....
But that's ok, it's still in the normal contest if it's in the red cross contest, so I'll just judge it pretending it's not a part of the Red Cross thing.
And the score I give after all that is $5. I want this really bad.

Oohhh guitar player... Why so sulky?

This design tickles my fancy.

They are volunteers who represent compassion in humanity by donating time to play music for others less fortunate, whether physically or mentally, music can go a long way to help people. It's amusing yet sad that I have to keep explaining this. I guess it is too subtle for some or maybe everyone.

The more I look at this I prefer the non-color version.

Awesome drawing...and, wait, isn't that mezo on the left? Yes, I think it is...and that's travis on guitar! Who's that in the middle, though? Moss? Is that you??? Pasty white legs and wearing a dress....looks pretty English to me.

It's nice to see someone breaking out of the hearts/bandages/world/hands thing and doing something both really well drawn and original.
