GAH!!!!! THIS MAKES ME WANT TO PULL MY HAIR OUT.
Gee, this dumb liberalisim. Bush is doing the best he can, and I doubt anyone else in his shoes could handel the situation any better.

*THINK*
If the war was for oil then why are we still paying 2.50 a gallon. Why havent oil prices droped?
Were not hurting so bad that we would need it from there anyway. And if the war was for oil. We'd know, Iraqies would tell us.

and catalist, yeah bush is doing the best he can, but umm... lets think how he got there, o yeah, he put himself in the shithole. you really have no idea what you are talking about. bush is doing TONS of illegal stuff all over the place and doing boneheaded moves everywhere too. i dont even want to go into it
mindtrance
mindtrance on Apr 15 '06
This isn't meant to knock at Bush in any way. We are fighting a war over people who have their hands dirty in the oil business. I think the fact that Bush owns some oil companies is a conflict of interest don't you?

The prices aren't dropping because they are using the war to drive the need to developed better technology when it comes to gas. The sad thing is if you do some REAL research, you will find the price per mile of a hybrid car is actually more than the price of a hummer. Why you ask? Because the hybrid costs way more to develop and build.

Shirtflirt has a lot of knowledge on the subject.

small thing... you would just want to solve, because buying a vowel costs money per letter. Sorry just a side note. As for the whole anti-war/bush thing. No one here is going to have their minds changed over a threadless comment but I agree this war is over oil. We use the most oil in the world and yet we have it the cheapest, compared to other countries where it is atleast 50 cents more a gallon, china is an up and commer and expects to triple its consumption in only a couple years time, so securing oil would be a main priority, its been proven there were no weapons of mass destruction, we went to war without the UN's consent... lasty any other fuel alternative so far is no better than gasoline, hybrid is the only one that does any good... electricity and hydrogen take just as much if not more oil to create this alternative than to actually power a car. Solar energy and wind are the only alternative that rivals the cleanliness of hydrogen and will give you a nearly cheap power over time. But you do still have to create those objects using oil. I say we spend all our time developing electric cars charged by solar panel or wind powered refueling stations... but that would require our countries leader to not be making money off of our main resource... which the country we conveniently just attacked has the reported largest oil supply in the world.

Being a vet of this war I find this sub to be a disservice to the people that serve to keep you free. I mean no disrespect, your design is pretty good, but the content is very bad. mindtrance said "Dont hate, appriciate."- apply this while thinking about the soldiers that you are bashing.

mindtrance on Apr 16 '06
I can agrue both sides of the war to be honest, I'm very open minded. I appreciate everything you do Stiffy, honestly. I have family and friends in the war myself.

I just think there are some things in the background driving our intentions that shouldn't be.

I know friends who came back and told the same thing you just did, about the kids you gave food to, and the families that are happy we are there. That warms my heart. It's not meant to bash soliders.

It's meant to say, there are people dying over there, and I hope they are dying to protect our freedom, and free others, not because a president with ties in the oil industry wants to drive up his worth in the process.

Again, I appreciate all your service to our country my friend :)

Debates suck. Let's talk about the shirt instead of Dick and Bush, eh?

I like how the American flag is hidden in the "unused" squares. Took me a sec to see it. And my first thought was "No blind for.... what?" But I get it now, and I think it's clever.

I give it a 5, but no $ because I'm not one for wearing an American flag on my shirt.
owen skyser-gray
owen skyser-gray on Apr 16 '06
decent shirt, and you mean well with the message i guess (which is to say, you're on my side of the argument) but wouldnt buy it for two reasons.

1. as i've elaborated on almost every other political t-shirt's comment section, america needs to learn how to compromise, because the compromise is the foundation that this country was built on... and wearing a shirt that is so blatantly against one whole half of the country isn't really helping anything. i won't let my hatred for a political party get in the way of my love for my country.

2. the phrase "no blood for oil" is thrown around too much by people who don't really educate themselves on what is really happening. not to say you aren't an upright educated and well-informed citizen, but i don't want to be mistaken for someone who isn't. on top of that, i don't want to be labeled a hippy.

the fact of the matter is, because of polarization like this, there will never be a shirt printed on threadless more political than the flat house... and that's not even really a political shirt.
mindtrance
mindtrance on Apr 16 '06
Point well taken. I'll have to put some energy into a shirt that would please all then. Not an Anti-war, but a pro peace.
jpiatt
   jpiatt on Apr 16 '06
Ok...
the design is pretty good. But...

mindtrap, I don't like the fact that you have commented on your own work and defended yourself in the comments. The shirt should stand on it's own without all this debate.
There's also something that bothers me about the whole Wheel of Fortune thing being used. I mean, to me, Wheel of Fortune is such a cheezy pop culture reference, and this is supposed to be some pseudo-intellectual "I have an opinion and I am going to force it on you with my shirt" type of thing. I think that Wheel of Fortune kind of blows the credibility of that, maybe that's just my opinion.
That being said, I do basically agree with the message. Take what you will from this....

Thank you for using tact in your reply Mindtrance. My faith in this site has been restored once more. I have seen many respectful comments ever since I wrote mine. There hasnt been as many ignorant remarks as usual. Emokiss and I decided yesterday that even though we take different stances we still need to respect eachothers opinion and sometimes just agree to disagree. Americans need to stop with its partisan politics. Just because one is a democrat doesnt mean that they should bash every idea or opinion that a Republican has, and likewise. We all need to work towards being a united country that works together and compromises to find whats best for the our people as a whole. Stop looking for conspiracies and start looking for solutions. I hate the far left and the far right. Alot of Dems think that the Right is so wrong.... I'll admit that the Republicans are wrong on some issues, but this doesnt mean that the Democrats are right either. If we keep attacking our own brothers and sisters like this, then this country and our freedoms wont be worth fighting for.
Ive told someone on here before that everyday I go to CNN's Casualties of War page to see what fellow troops have made the ultimate sacrifice. It hurts like hell but I cant look away. The sooner that we put aside our pride the sooner the rest of us come home. I like the idea for a pro peace shirt. Lets Unite our Divided States. We are in this together.

(sweet f'n novel, now we can get back to talking about designs.... and Nate's foot fetish)

mindtrance on Apr 16 '06
I'm not defending anything, as a human being with morals I don't think it's right to let a soldier let alone anyone else be upset by something I did or said. It's called Tact.

That being said, I tend to not look at Democrat vs Republican. I just look at the issues. I'm an independent for that very reason. I don't want to be put into a box by being forced to associate with either viewpoint.

The sole reason for the wheel of fortone reference is to say "no blood for oil" in a clever way by buying the vowel. Nothing more, Nothing less.

bk1 on Apr 16 '06
I like it alot, although i agree with many people that the slogan 'no blood for oil' is pretty lame and overused. Howerver, that's is partially what makes it so effective here, since the message isn't spelled out, you need a well-known, if overused one so people can fill in the blanks.
Bottom line: 5

I personally like the design. Its very well done and I would proudly wear it. While the "No blood for oil" line is getting a bit cliche, this is just different enough that it works. Great work.

Would you buy a more expensive car if it would save someone's life?

To Stiffy42j:

"The sooner that we put aside our pride the sooner the rest of us come home."

I'm not following the logic on this, considering the context of your argument before it. The fact that Americans are so fiercely divided amongst themselves is not why the soldiers are still over there three years later, and quitting with the disagreeing on everything won't bring them home. The only thing that can and will bring them home is a decision made by the president to bring them home, back out and admit it's time to count our losses and start being a little more diplomatic and listen when the UN is saying "No, we're not approving a war". Whether Democrats and Republicans can get along for five minutes has nothing to do with it.

But I do completely agree that everyone needs to calm the eff down and get over their differences. No one can ever really win the "I'm right! They're wrong!" battle. Everyone always feels their viewpoint is right and best. Maybe if everyone re-learned how to listen to other people as well as standing by their personal morals, not those assigned to them when they look at their affiliation on their voter registration card, we could all get along a lot better. Blindly going along with everything your affiliated party stands for isn't being a good American, it's being an uneducated, apathetic sheep. I strongly believe the largest problem with our political system is that people do not care enough or know enough about their candidates, at ANY level of the government. Who knows what their mayor's stances are? Their selectmen? Governors? Not enough, and not many at all, really. Not to mention when someone pulls a Gore or a Kerry or a Romney and waffles. Take a stand and stick by your morals, kids! Waffling loses a lot of fans, fast, and simply gives the opposing rabid faction more ammo in the media.

As for the shirt: This is really well designed, and the message is very clear. I like the use of the American flag on it, it's a symbol that those who oppose the war need to take back and be proud to display. The flag doesn't stand for just one viewpoint. Who cares if the Right plaster it all over their cars/houses/clothing? What's stopping the Left from also using the flag? No one ever said it only represents those who are for the war. By not using it, they're simply giving it more power as a symbol of the Righties of the country. And that's totally offensive IMO. This shirt gets a 5. I don't think I'd buy it, simply because this is such a hot topic right now, and I don't want to draw scorn from people I don't even know by wearing such a strong statement, I'll choose when I want to say something about it ;) But, great design, good choice of colours.

On the Bush subject, let's be real. Just because he's the president it doesn't mean he's supposed to. I mean I don't think to liberate the people you should kill them first.

On the messages on the shirts, of course shirts were meant to deliver messages. If you laugh at a shirt it's because it's message made you laugh. DUH. Some of you guys really don't know what you're talking about and just see that the other people hate messages and you do the same thing. Go along with the herd.
