About my design
by streetwise
After seeing my brother in New Orleans during Katrina for 6 days, I want to do a shirt based on the Hurricane Scale of different storm strengths (ranked 1—5), and how with the earth's ever-changing warming trend, storms have become increasingly out of order.

Kindly leave a comment if you agree. A larger image is avaible on my profile page. Thanks. (-;

I like it. I just don't think people will catch the hurricane connection. I can see the swirls in the machine, but still...
Not to mention 5 should probably just be gone, with just some little pieces left. That's what parts of Mississippi look like now and Katrina was only a 4 when it made landfall.

i would never get the message but the illustration itself is really nice :)

after ten minutes of staring:
"oh my god! i get it!"

as a shirt, i like the shirt. as a shirt with a message, i am not comfortable with someone staring at my chest for ten minutes. but the shirt as a shirt is the shit. and that's it. :D

yep! $5

olive + blue = great combination

^ thanks my friend scoutti!

at first glance the only take away should be that it's a "Laundry Mat" after further study, you may come to realize that it's a hurricane scale.

and i'm originally from louisiana, and my parents and brother still live there, so it's not like i'm not close to the idea of hurricanes and twisters.

cheers, to a less active storm year in 2006.

We're all here because we love shirts that have designs printed on them, so there really shouldn't be a single one of us who's uncomfortable having people stare at our chest. Besides that, why does someone walking toward you on the street have to 'get' your shirt? You know what the message is - that's why you wear it. And anyways, doesn't the fact that it looks cool outweigh everything else? 5$.

very wise, mikemills. i am ashamed of my comment, and for having forgotten why it is i am here.

I just don't think the message is clear at all without an explanation. Even if the viewer does make the connection, there's not enough on the shirt to confirm for them that they're right, no matter how long they look. The message is garbled, basically.

That being said, excellent choice of colors, and I think the stripes behind the design totally make it. Middle machine is sheared a bit funny, though.

rudra on Apr 10 '06
i don't think i would've gotten that without the explanation -

i kept thinking "why are there seagulls in the laundry room?'

it's a good illustration - but i think the scale of destruction shown is too subtle to convey the message about the increasingly devastating nature of the storms

I love the design. I like the idea/message a lot too. I'm not totally positive that the message is can be found in the time that a person has to glance at one's t-shirt. But as I said, I love the design.

I love it. It doesn't need an explanation. $5 I could have worn this to visit my relatives that are now living in a FEMA trailer....they would have gotten a kick ou of this! They curse the laundry mat they have to use now...stupid hurricanes! $5

cool illustration, I dont quite like the framing lines much, but they work for the most part. Its a great idea too, that stands on its own without any knowledge of what it really means, and gets cooler the more you know.

i like the craziness of the design but did not see the connection. To me it seems like my old neighborhood laundreymatt that never worked, and was always running "afoul" thats why i like it, and thats why i must have it! 5$

It's a beautiful illustration, but all I keep thinking when I look at it is, "Birds ruin everything."

The graphic is a 5, and I'd buy it even if nobody ever got the message. It's a beautiful shirt without comprehension of the meaning, and with it it's even moreso.

seraphim17
seraphim17 on Apr 15 '06
I concur with Bodishmosherson, I totally thought it was the birds fault, and feel kinda stupid, because I NEVER would have connected it with a hurricane warning, I blame it on I live in Alaska. Which will never have hurricanes, at least in this lifetime.

Apart from my ignorance about natural disasters I'll never see, this design rocks. GREAT choice of color, and I think the stripes in the background really add something.
